We just got a puppy and she was fine for the first couple days then she got bumps all of her stomach and arms. Then my two year old dog started to itch. They are biting and itching all the time. Now me and my husband have the same bumps and are itching to. What rash that a dog has could be contaigous humans? I know it is not fleas or ticks at least from what we can see.

Bless your hearts, I think you may have mange! Believe it or not, I just got rid of it in my family!! We rescued a puppy from a really bad situation, and she was very sick. Vet says he'd never seen a pup that sick that didn't have parvo. Point being, her being so sick when she was little damaged her immune system. Mange is a type of mite that is on most dogs but those dogs with compromised immune systems such as Jorja get overwhelmed by the mite, which causes bumpy skin and intense itching in dogs, and loss of hair because of the scratching. In humans, it's called scabies. It causes little blister-like places on your skin which have the MOST INTENSE itch, especially at night. Then the little blister (which probably did not seep, it just went away) leaves and a small dot is left. Then the whole process starts again, and they move in rows down your fingers, your abdomen, your legs and your elbows. It takes premetherin cream kept on for 8-14 hours (that you get from a doc) to cure it. It's actually what old folks used to call the seven year itch, because left untreated, it takes seven years in humans for it to run it's cycle. ( useless trivia I learned in my quest to figure out what was going on in OUR house! LOL) Go to your doctor , and you'll have to have the dog treated too, to be successful at keeping them gone!

Oops!

Back in health class in high school, did they tell you about "crabs"? This is a parasite that is transferrable from pets to humans (or vice versa), called Sarcoptes. It is actually a form of mange. If you are positive there are no fleas, then there's a good possibility it's Sarcoptes. The puppy may have gotten this from living in dirty conditions in the place he was raised. If he came from a petstore or a "backyard breeder", that doesn't surprise me.

Take the little guy to the vet. They will tell you for sure if it is Sarcoptes or fleas, or perhaps something else. Ringworm might be another possibility- that's a fungal skin infection. All 3 of the conditions I've listed are treatable, but they are all by different methods, so it's important to know for sure what is causing the rash. The vet will get treatment for the dog, and let you know what to tell your doctor so you can get treated as well.

Sounds like either fleas or chiggers. Dogs aren't typically allergic to poison ivy, so if you all have it, it's probably not that. Ringworm is a fungus and forms in round patches where hair is lost, so it doesn't sound like that either.

I'd recommend a vet visit. Once they figure out what's up with the dogs, you and your husband can find a human treatment for whatever it is.

Sounds like sarcoptic mange. Its a topical mange mite that leaves little red bumps where they chew- it is highly contagious but easily fixed ,take the dogs to a vet and they'll scrape the skin ,its a simple test-for you though its a little more involved, you will need to make an appointment at your doctors and they will have to Rx a topical ointment for your entire body!

Go to the VET ASAP and find out what this is!! I was thinking fleas or something from your description. It COULD just be heat, but it is not a "catching" sort of rash.

I don't know what it is but had the same situation earlier this year..l used sulfa shampoos on the dog, took a while to clear it up. I just washed with head and shoulders all over my bod and used a bath sponge to scrub with.

Go to your docotor. Could be some kind of mites. We got it when I was younger and it is pain the butt to get rid. You have to use this cream all over, and wash sheets on beds daily in hot water, clothes, everything. Good Luck.

First, please double check for fleas as this sounds like what you have. Also pets can and do catch and spread poison ivy and poison oak. A trip to the vet is your first stop, then possibly onto your Dr.
Good luck
