I have never had anything to come of someone breaking into my house. I filed the report and that was the end of it. Twice someone broke in and stole guns. You would think law enforcement would at least let you know something about it. Call you since it is firearms, but no.......

Once I found the culprit on my own and quite by mistake. I was a correctional officer and I overheard an inmate talking on the phone and they were from the same town as me. They were talking about their accomplice in their crime spree, how he'd gotten off and he was stealing guns and so on. So, I questioned some about it, found out so much detail. This inmate described my house to a tee, and even was wearing a ring they had stolen out of my jewelry box.

So, armed with this, when I got off duty, I went to the jurisdiction where I filed the report of the stolen items. They corroborated my statement, found the dude and busted him.

Yes. 2x. They break in. Take your stuff and you never see it again. It's really a very simple process. Usually they break random stuff as they fumble around the house and they also steal stuff with little or no value since most thieves are not rocket-scientists.

Now it is not that common, unless you are really unlucky or have really expensive stuff, to lose your TV or stereo equipment since that is bulky to take and isn't as easy to re-sell as jewelry.

So have insurance. That helps- but the process is still pretty annoying and unnerving.

It has never happened to me, but I have a funny story about a break in. Years ago my sister lived in San Francisco and had a burglary where they took everything, stereo, jewelery, appliances, clothing, etc. She and her new husband had very little assets, so they had no insurance and no way to replace the items. They decided then and there to go out and get insurance, not report the burglary, and waited six weeks to report the event. They got a nice big check and replaced all the missing items. They have never not had insurance since. I am not supporting this behavior but I thought it was innovative and pretty cagey.

I have and they got all the good stuff. When I went to call the police is when I realized they even stole my telephones. The cops came and thats when I decided that CSI is totally Hollywood. They had all kind of fingerprints but werent good enough for a match. My home owners insurance covered everything, so I got all new stuff. It still tottally sucked though.

P.S. LOCK YOUR DOORS!!

In which state: Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska or Georgia? In the 1st 3 states, I called the police, they came out, and nothing happened. In Georgia, I didn't call the police, they didn't come out, and nothing happened.

One time, someone broke into my house, stole every single item and replaced it with an exact duplicate. I couldn't believe it so I woke up my roommate to tell him about it. He said to me, "Do I know you?"
