I looked it over for fleas and it appeared not to have any. I had it in my garage and when I opened the door to the house it got loose and is now locked in my bedroom and bathroom area with me and my three cats. I believe it's female, but it will no longer allow me to get close enough to check it out. My boyfriend won't let me keep her or spend ANY money on her. I need to adopt her out. Am I doing everything right? Any tips? I can't find a vet to look at her for free. Please help!

It doesn't want to be free, it let me pick it up and bring it inside and was rubbing on me and everything. I think it's just scared now because of the other animals in my house.

I am NOT planning on keeping her...instead of making her live in a cage in a humane society or being put to sleep, I wanted to try to adopt her out of my home..and not for money...to a good home for free.

I called a vet and they said that the cat is NOT feral or it would have never let me get near it, most likely it has been abandoned since it was hanging outside my home for several days.

First of all, how can you be sure it's feral and not just your neighbor's cat?
Secondly, if indeed it has been heretofore uncared for, why would you allow it near or in the same house as your other three cats considering that it could be diseased?
Thirdly, do you really need another cat?

Bring her to a local SPCA, Humana Society center or another type of animal shelter. Explain your situation and leave her with them. They will give her the proper care and make sure she finds a loving home. If you don't know where there's a place like that, just check the phone book.

Also, keep her away from your other cats, you wouldn't want any cat fights or for any of them to catch a disease.

Oh, and, are you sure it's a feral cat? After you drop it off at a shelter, check around your neighborhood. If someone is missing their cat, you could have found it.

The only hard part will be getting her into the carrier, but I'm sure with some patience you will be able to corner her (maybe in the bathroom?) and get her in it. She is probably very scared and confused, so be gentle.

Nobody is going to want a stray cat who hasn't been vetted. It was great of you to bring her in. One thing though. She allowed you to bring her into your home and she's friendly and doesn't seem to have parasites...Honey I'm wondering if she's feral at all. First thing...check around the neighborhood and see if anybody is missing a kitty. Check the lost and found in the newspapers and call the humane society to see if any lost cats of her description were reported missing. If all of that should prove fruitless, the humane society should be the next step. They might provide free vet care, at least shots and spaying. If you have to leave her with them, it beats the streets. I got my 3 cats from the SPCA and I bet the people who brought them in were worried too. The Saturday we went, the place was overflowing with people looking to adopt. Good luck and bless you for your kind heart...Oh, dump the bf..he sounds like a loser. LOL

Regardless of money, you must take her to the vet. She may have communicable diseases that could harm you or your cats such as rabies, distemper, or feline leukemia. Beyond that, you have a few options:
1.) Do you live in a quiet, safe aea, or a more city-like environment? If you think she would be OK in the wild, get her fixed and re-release her. Do not feed her more unless you want her to stick around forever.
2.) You could give her to a shelter right away. Often shelters can get free check-ups and fixing from vets. However, if she is feral, it is likely she will not be adopted out as quickly as other more socialized cats.

Good luck!

If you can't afford to feed it, don't keep it. If you can't afford the vet, don't keep it. There MUST be a kitty rescue place around you. Call you local animal control and they may be able to help you. Also, it may belong to someone. Cats, as you know, like to wander and get caught in garages all the time. (they are so smart like like that) Someone is probably missing their cat.
And though I am NOT a cat person,(personally I can't tolerate the smell and scratching) I did rescue one once, and I kept it for only 3 days but I found a kitty rescue place that takes cats for free.

No, you don't need to adopt her, you need to let her go! She is a FERAL cat, not a house cat. She will piss all over your carpet and your bed and beat the crap out of your other cats until you give her the freedom she is used to. If you want to have her around, leave a bowl of food outside for her on a regular basis. Other than that, what you are doing is cruel and you are being a selfish jerk.

Contact your local animal shelter (not pound) and see if they can help you. Many times they have a live cage you can borrow to catch the cat and then you can return the cat to them. They will then find it a home and make sure that it is well taken care of. If they will not take it many times they will help with the vet bills till you can find it a home.

Well the first thing you would need to do is catch and take it to a vet. You need to make sure it is healthy.

I hope your cats have had thier shots becasue it's possible that the feral cat can infect them.

You are not going to find a vet to look at her for free.

Call an animal shelter or animal rescue in your area. They should be able to take the cat and it will get basic treatment. Then they will attempt to find a home otherwise it will be put to sleep.

Instead of vets offices try calling your local county or city animal shelters, they may know of free clinics. Also try calling Petco, Petsmart, etc., they often know of free clinics also. And do a search for animal rescue groups, they may be able take her in until they can find her a good home.
