I just got a 9 month Quaker. The guy at the pet shop said they are in the top 10 of talking birds and that this one talks a lot. Yet he didn't get it to talk in the store and i've had it for 2 weeks and still nothing. Do they have to get use to you to start talking again. Any advice on how to get it to talk or did I get scr.e.wed over. And if I did, How much does a "used" 9 month old green quaker sell for?

I guess i should also add that just because its not talking doesnt mean its quiet. It's very very loud. It was returned to the petshop because it was so loud so im not complaining about that. Also. I'm wondering how you can tell if a bird has possibly been abused.

You should have heard it say something by now. Try to have a rape of birds on and leave the room for a while and see if it makes any sound at all. The next step would be to talk to it in its covered cage first thing in the morning and be patient with it. If that doesn't work try setting it by the window, not long enough to get hot by the sun. If you haven't heard it try to talk by then, I think you were taken. Do one step a day and try to be patient, even if it doesn't talk its probably a cool bird.

Your bird might just not be used to you. It can take months for a bird to begin talking and most birds as young as yours probably don't talk too much. Also, many birds get attached to only one person and will talk to no one else. The pet store owner might be that one person and it will take a while for the bird to trust you. You can't make the bird talk unfortunately, it might and it might not, but take it from someone who knows, quiet quakers are a good thing as once they start making noise, they can get pretty loud. You should not have gotten the bird just because it could talk. Parrots are very intelligent and complex creatures and require a lot of care. They are not just interesting things you put in a cage and show off to all your friends.

I would imagine that the bird would need time to adjust to it's surroundings, get used to you and your routines.
I haven't had quakers before, but have had many others. Some won't talk for people unless they specifically want to. Others just won't shut up, lol.
Hopefully someone here with quaker experience will be able to tell you more.

The bird will probably take more than 2 weeks to start talking. I would try repeating something simple over and over like "hello". Just love the bird. It makes me sad that you bought the bird just so it would talk. It's a pet, not entertainment.

Spend an hour a day just repeating yourself like with Hi or Hello. Do that for a week or two and it will then start talking. If you want to make it learn new words then do the process over again with a different word. Anothering thing may be is that it doesn't recognise your voice.

9 mos old is young for a bird. A lot of time it take well over a year for them to learn to talk. Be patient. If you were just wanting a bird strickly for it's speaking ability maybe you shouldn't have gotten one. No bird is guaranteed to talk just because of it's reputation. You should love them reguardless. Bird people have birds because they love birds..not because of what the bird can do for them.

hi there well birds usually don't start talking until they are completely comfortable with their surroundings. They worry about their safety more than their vocabulary! And also they will usually only start to learn words after they are tame and trust the person teaching them words. Also, it helps if you repeat the word you want him to learn over and over in the same tone and voice and pitch so its easier for the bird to learn. I hope i was of some help!

The birds who communicate the final and convey the final imitations of human speech are in many cases VERY long lived. they're additionally sensible adequate to require different interest. once I say "plenty" I recommend that to have a happy, healthful, talkative poultry you are able to spend HOURS an afternoon with the animal. consistently. African greys, as an occasion, can stay into their Nineteen Seventies, and Amazons have been recorded dwelling over one hundred years. Even "short lived" parrots are in lots of cases 25+ twelve months pets. Birds who don't get adequate interest can mutilate themselves critically or substitute into detrimental and aggressive. it extremely is extremely person-friendly to confirm person birds pluck themselves bald and bloody by using loss of suited interplay. Birds are actually not a beginner puppy. they're probable to survive you, have wellness issues that are actually not something like mammal illnesses, and that they require loads of artwork. Oh, and that they are loud: puzzling to nap around, annoying to locate puppy sitters for, and not welcome in all dwelling circumstances. they're remarkable animals, yet many finally end up in circumstances that have not got the aspects to maintain them happy and healthful.

Quakers are for the most a wild parrot. and I know people who own them and I have never heard one say a word. I have an amazon and a macaw who both talk non-stop. and I never taught them a word. they imitate the sound of your voice.
