Humus is mostly mashed chick peas, sesame Tahini and other ingredients to make a wonderful dip. I especially enjoy it mixed with garlic and the oil of garlic.
When humus is served, bread and meat can be dipped in or sometimes it can be used as a filling for falafel pita sandwiches.

Its essentially ground garbonzo beans, mixed with Tahine, made from sesame (about 1/4 of the mix). Add garlic and olive oil to taste. Grind up in a food processor till you have a good consistency for dipping pita bread.

Definition: [HOOM-uhs] This thick Middle Eastern sauce is made from mashed chickpeas seasoned with lemon juice, garlic and olive or sesame oil. It's usually served as a dip with pieces of pita, or as a sauce. When tahini (sesame-seed paste) is added, it becomes hummus bi tahina. Middle Eastern markets carry both forms in cans or jars or sometimes fresh.

Hummus - it's a Middle Eastern/Mediterranean spread. It's main ingredients are blended chick peas (aka garbanzos), olive oil, and tahini, which is kind of like an oily/runny peanut butter that is made out of sesame seeds.
Other ingredients that you can add are salt, garlic, lemon juice, cream (to add a different texture), and sometimes curry.

Pureed chickpeas (garbanzo beans), and tahini (sesame seed paste) with a combination of a few other ingredients, garlic, olive oil, spices. It's VERY healthy, very low in fat, etc. You should make some and try it with pita bread. I LOVE hummus.
I listed a link for a good recipe below.
