My 10 year old cousin just got a new dog. He's about 1 year old. They said he was neutered. But he still has his testicles. I thought they removed the testicles when they neutered him?

Are you sure there are still testicles inside the scrotum? A lot of vets these days for some BIZARRE reason only remove the testicles, but not the sac (ostensibly for cosmetic reasons - like dogs would CARE!). To be sure, you're going to have to feel the dog up... sorry!!!

They do remove the testicles when a dog is neutered. I know that it sounds crazy but some people actually have fake testicles put in because they are afraid that the dog will not be the same if they don't. I would contact the people that owned the dog before and ask for a receipt or something from the vet who preformed the neuter and if they are unable to do that you need to have the dog examined by your vet.

Yeah, when my dog was neutered, his testicles were removed, but the sack remained. Tell them to ask the vet at the next visit.

If he was recently neutered, the sac may still be swollen with fluid. I've seen some dogs that looked better endowed right after the surgery than they did before! The sac will eventually deflate and shrink.

If you feel the sac and it's just an indeterminate squishy mass then he's probably been neutered. If there's two definite objects in there, he hasn't.

They are supposed to remove the testicles, but you'll have the rare doctor who prefers to do vasectomies instead. There is an injection called neutersol that some have used that shrinks the testicles and makes them not able to produce sperm and finally, if he is an older dog and swelled post surgically, it could be blood clots in the sac. I would recommend talking to the vet who did the surgery. With vasectomies and neutersol, you still have testosterone and a high tendency to be aggressive towards other dogs.

If the dog still has his testicles he has not been neutered

If he was just neutered it seems to take a while before everything becomes flat....How,ever, it he still has his testes, I would suggest that he has not been neutered....your vet will know for sure

If you can feel the testicles, he has not been neutered.

Does he still have the testicles or just a flatish sack that held the testies? If he still has testicles the sack will look full and round.
