Our black lab is very sweet and mild mannered. He enjoys playing with our other two dogs, a boxer and a bishon. He loves to snuggle. However, touch him with your feet, and beware. He has bitten a couple times, never breaking the skin. He ALWAYS growls, jumps up, and moves away.

It sounds like someone has kicked the dog in the past.

Here's an idea, it may sound silly: Try balancing a treat he really likes on top of your foot. Then slowly put your foot out towards the dog, saying "good boy" the whole time, until he sees the treat and takes it. Repeat this often, working up to the point where you can slightly touch his front paws or something with the treat on your foot. He will learn that having your feet near him is a good thing.

Agree with others that there's a good chance that someone was/is kicking him and he's developed a fear of feet.

To try to get him over this, get a big bowl full of treats and give him one every time you get your feet near him. Then after a while, start touching him with a toe or two and give him lots of treats. Etc. Right now for some reason feet=fear for him and you need to convert that into feet=food.

He was probably kicked before you got him. So he has a natural fear of feet coming near him. I had a dog who was beaten by his owner, so at first, whenever we went to pet him, he was cower and cry. The best thing to do would be not put your feet near him, at least for now. It might take him a while to get over it. We have a cat who was kicked and she hisses and growls and even strikes at your feet if you walk to close to her....

Because it's annoying!

Seriously, it's possible he has a bad association with feet. Maybe he was kicked or stepped on, and he's afraid it's about to happen again.

You can try to desensitize him to foot contact, I suppose. Touch him with your feet while feeding him yummy treats, etc.

It sounds to me like someone is kicking him or has kicked him...He is obviously objecting, & the fact that HE moves away should indicate to you that there is a problem....I don`t think that by shoving your feet at him more often will fix this.....try & find out who is doing this & reprimand them....

just like people, dogs have likes and dislikes. He probably hates feet. I do. I react very badly if anyone tries to put their feet on me.
