Punkin,

This is a very confused issue. What most people think, is that the Nation of Israel, is the same thing as "The House of Israel", of the Old Testament. This is not correct. The House of Israel, refers to all of those, who have entered into the spiritual relationship enjoyed between Jacob and God. Jacob's name, after He surrendered His life to God's love, became Israel. All who follow the path he walked, are of the "house" of Israel. This denotes a spiritual family. This has absolutely nothing to do with the earthly government, which we now know as Israel, or the Israelites. They have taken Israel's name, but they are not "the house of Israel".

Basically yes.

The majority of today's Jews are from the tribes of Judah, Levi, and a bit of Benjamin. Others may be converts or descendants of converts.

The Israelites encompassed 12 tribes, among which were the above 3.

The word "Jew", "Jewish, and "Judaism" are derived from Judah.

yes, they are descendents of the 12 tribes. The difference right now is the Israelis are more Nationalist or Zionists. The question at this time for them is their survival as a nation. I have read that right now they aren't as faithful in their worship , but they are the only race that God has kept through thousands of years through all kinds of persecution and horror.
