i dont think any religion is more intolerant than any other, but i think that there are some members of those religions that are more intolerant than others. for some reason, it seems that there are fanatical christians and muslims that seem to pop up in the news more than any other religion. that doesnt mean that there arent any other zealots out there that belong to other religions, but it seems that the christians and muslims are the ones bringing attention to themselves.

and reading these posts is making me realize that there are tons of people out there that are totally willing to completely generalize any group of people. most of the answers of this question are showing that a lot of you are completely intolerant to the people you're calling the most intolerant, and blaming the entire groups for the actions of a handful of whackos. any religion is good until you start to force your beliefs on others, and discriminate against those that disagree with you. and no religion gives people all the answers. thats the whole idea of faith, its not faith unless theres some mystery to it. if you have all the answers, its just being told what to do, its the fact that you dont have the answers that makes faith a powerful personal choice. if we could all live and try to learn from each others choices and ways of life, if we could all look at each other and say "oh, you believe in that? tell me about it.... thats cool, this is what i believe in", if we could all just learn to let each other think differently, and if we took the time to honestly think and question our own beliefs, we'd he a hell of a lot better off.

Only true comparitive theologians are qualified to suggest an anwer to this question. Everyone else who answered this question probably learned from the

"University of Prejudice Reporters, Extremists and 'Some Guy'"

Examples of retarded justifications from retarded people:

1. There are groups of Christians who persecute Jews for allegedly killing Jesus, so Christianity is the most intolerant religion.

2. Al Qaeda, Hamas and other terrorist groups are headed by Muslims, so Islam is the most intolerant religion.

3. Jewish Israelis killed innocent civilians in the middle east, so Judism is the most intolerent religion.

How many people who wrote specific relgions actually read the entire religious doctorines for those religions (i.e. Torah, Quran, Bible, etc.)??? I'm willing to bet not many.

Moral of the Story: Read about relgious doctorines and talk to religious scholars before you say "___is the most intolerant religion." If not, then you can add your own name to the blank of the question: "___is the most intolerant person."

Let me instead tell you what I consider the most tolerant religions. By shining a light on the goal of tolerance, perhaps you and others will be able to discern on your own when you are confronted with an intollerant religion.

Buddhism and Taoism allow you to continue to practice other forms of spirituality, but focus on your own release from suffering. Some congregations within Christianity don't mind this mixing of approaches.

Buddhists would consider the more hard-nosed elements of fundamentalism (in Christianity, Islam, Judaism, etc.) as a form of longing for certainty (where no certainty exists). Taoists would see those elements as forcing things to fit together in a manner that they may not do so.

However, I doubt most Buddhists would dismiss any other religion out of hand. Buddhists and Taoists consider each individual to be on their own path. Rather than dictating right from wrong, they instead ask whether an activity or thought is more useful or less useful in reducing suffering or achieving your goal.

WEll it's not really the question of which is the most intolerant, it's the people that ruin the whole idea and image or religion , all of them are extreamists in mind and physicaly, in every single religion. Therefore they are all intolerant. They have bad messages and lies about god, and god wanting them to do something otherwise he will kill them, or if people don't dress the way god wants them to, he will kill them. That's rubish, the whole purpose behind a religion is to give more meaning to life , a superstition to believe in, a different style of living and enjoying celebration. Now all these myths are rubish are going beyond the lines of communication with anything and anyone. And religion and god are just superstions and myths people made up along time ago, and therfore if you are extreamist and you don't even know if god exists then you are fighting without any cause therefore your are a terrorsit, terrorising people just to force them in your believes!!! I wopuld go on but i'll stop from here

It is not so much the religion that is intolerant, but individual people within that religion that are that way. I have found wonderful people in all religions, but unfortunately I have also found some that use the religion to hate others.

The Christ said that He had other sheep not of this fold. That means He loved others even though they were not part of His group. We should do our best to emulate Him.

All religions are intolerant to some degree, because if you believe in another religion you're going to the opposites religions hell... However, I would say that the most intolerant religion is probably muslim. It descriminates women, all non believers are infidels and are evil, and the religion has been based primarily along war for the last 2000 years.

There are no real intolerant religions... most religions teach peace and acceptance... there are only intolerant sects and people. People who interpret their religious scripture to exclude everyone and everything that doesn't fit within their beliefs.

the worst ones rank the same to me...
Islam, Catholism, Mormonism to name a few.

Frankly, all oragnized religions are intolerable. The things that matter are personal. Faith is a personal choice and prayer is a personal action.

Yes, blah blah blah on fellowship and the like...I'll block the emails I receive if some of you are compelled to preach/convert me.

Any fundamentalist branch of Christianity, Islam, or Judaism...note that all these religions hail from the middle-east originally, it's the moderates that make it possible for the extremists to get a foot-hold...there seems to be something all share in common it is probably part of the cultural mind-set of that region.
