I know everybody is going to give me the b/s about their lives being on the line.BULLSH*T ! They have a pistol,a can of mace,a billy club and a radio that they can call for help at any sign of trouble.A lot of jobs are dangerous, fireman, electrician ,bridge construction, shipyard work...ect.That doesn't make these other people hateful.
Oh,cops have to deal with as*holes; So does cashiers.
If cops would just lose the"better than thou" attitude, the systen just might work like it is supposed to.

I'm a 47 year old white male,my son darkened my avatar as a joke and I just havent taken time to fix it.Besides, the color of a mans skin dont matter to me.I've been to jail for 48 hours due to a DUI.It was 12 years ago and I deserved it.One other time for public intoxacation.I didn't deserve that one,I was across the street from my house on a country road.
moparcop,I,m not what you think.I am not in trouble with the law.Cops have a "superior" attitude.I see it at wall mart when I walk by and say "hey bud"and they dont say anything back.Driving down the road,a friendly wave and nothing back.i have gotten some minor traffic tickets, the cop walks up with this"superior"attitude. If yall cops keep in mind that everybody aint hardened criminals and stop looking for every little thing you can pop someone with.(Is that a money thing?) Hey,I'm not the only man that feels this way about cops.I'm glad you saved the kids life, but can you do it without the superior attitude?

we're just "Authority Figures." We live in a society surrounded by "GOOD" and "BAD" people. We must protect the "GOOD" people from the "GOOD" people, and he "BAD" people from the "BAD" people. We must also protect the "BAD" people from the "GOOD" people, and the "GOOD" people from the "BAD" people. The aforementioned people greatly outnumber the Police. Now Police Officers have "Wives/Husbands" and "Children." Imagine what their lives must be like - The neighbors don't trust them because they are Police Officers and can't be trusted. Their children catch hell from their peers in schools and other places where kids go to have fun, because your kids can't be trusted because their parents are Police Officers. There are times when teachers take thei anger out on your kids because they had a bad encounter with a Police Officer. Note: That happen to me personally - It involved my son who attented Public High School. That teacher had an encounter with a City Police Officer and was arrested on a charge - Found Guilty in Court on that charge, BUT my son became a victim to his hate for Police Officers - That young man just could not get anything right in his class - The other students got it right. My son was starting to blame me for his failures in this class because I was a Police Officer - I later met with the teacher after learning more about what was going on. Afterwards, He stated he did not like "COPS," or anyone connected with the Police - I wanted to do what any "GOOD" or "BAD" person could've done when he said that too me - "PUNCH HIS FACE & THEN KICK HIS *** OFF THIS PLANET." But, I can't do that because I'm a Police Officer. I had a lot of damage control to get my son back into shape and ready for the world.

You serve and protect the public - Your spouse lives with the fact that you may not come home at the end of your shift because their Police Officer met with a Line of Duty Death - There are so many ways you can die on this job, Vehicle accidents, Suicide, Alcohol related illness, Shooting from other citizens, Accidental shooting by fellow Police Officers - We go thru Divorces that are difficult like other citizens - WE'RE PEOPLE TOO!

I have what many consider the worse job in any police department - DESK SERGEANT. You get it from the citizens, you get it from your suborinates, You get it from upper command and you see that the job get's done!

I have been with the Michigan State Police Department for (37) years, and a "DESK SERGEANT/SHIFT BOSS" for (21) years.
I'm just a creature of duty - When people do wrong - I'm going to chase them - I'm a good man - But the law is the law!

YES - WE'RE PEOPLE TOO!

THANK YOU - TAKE CARE!

If the police have an attitude, it is because they see the
worst of humanity and usually are responsible for dealing with
it.

Who do cashiers call when they're dealing with someone
who refuses to pay or is trashing the store? The police.

Police have incredibly high suicide rates because of their
jobs and because they are not able to maintain non-
professional relationships with others (e.g. spouses)
because of job related stress.

Police do a lot more than pick up speeders. Since traffic
violations are the single largest contact that the public
has with the police force, we get a very skewed view of
their lives.

With all the television dramas to the contrary, we're still
quick to label the police by the anger we feel at being pulled
over.

Like any other job, there are good ones and there are people
who abuse the power, for whatever reason.

I know that when I hear somebody banging around down stairs
at 2 in the morning, I am not going to be calling
for my local store's cashier.

Being a police officer isn't just a job. It has to be a mindset or they get killed. When you're at work and some assignment comes your way, you can either backburner it for awhile or jump right on it. Police can't. Every call they get is a catastrophe at least to the person placing the call, and they have to jump. The 'job' has to be a dedicated one because complacency will get you or someone else killed as an officer.
No, they as humans, aren't better than anybody else, but they provide a service of protect and serve. The old addage of 'once you go blue, you stay blue' is true here. Seeing how the police are damned if they do and damned if they don't, their social circle tends to tighten to their own kind. They don't mean for it to happen that way it just does. And many of the jobs you mentioned, when they get to go home of a day, they get to go home, and the job stays at work. With police officers, they see so much crap, it can often follow them home as well. Its stressful and hardens you some over time.

I admit, some officers hide behind the badge like its a shield and they become better than thou, but they are not as many as you think. Most take pride in what they do and wearing the uniform. Pride exudes confidence, agree?

The truth of the matter is.. they are better than everyone else. Police are the only one's with the power to infringe on your rights. But your right, they are human. They're just regular guys doing a job that get's NO respect. If you need a cop, they can't get there fast enough to make you happy. If YOU screwed up and they arrest you... their the bad guys. Their jobs and lives are under scrutiny 24/7. They are always expected to do the right thing. One little mistake can end their job. You make one little mistake they don't fire you.
Again, you're right. They have a stick, a can of irritant, a radio, and a gun. And they are expected to run TOWARD a problem that everyone else runs away from.
Maybe, just maybe, if they were given the respect they deserve, they wouldn't be forced to have an attitude to survive doing the job they do.
If it's just a job... why don't you do it. You can change them from the inside. Set an example. Put your life where your mouth is.

There is no point in answering his questions, its always the same thing. We are cowards with guns, OC, clubs and radios. And we target the working man due to money. Thats all he ever says and yet he asks questions like this.....But you dont care what answer you get because there is not going to be a way to make you understand what we do or why we do it. Your gona sit here untill some racist says what you want to hear and base that as all officers thinking. So go ahead and sit in your perfect, law less world and wonder why police have attitudes and show no compassion, but at the same time you show know understanding your self, just hate and prejudice.
All you will do is ask "Why dont cops care about the working man?" the go to someones else question and say "I hate pigs" Your not really asking about cops, your asking about yourself and then answering it. Your the one with no compassion and a hate for the working man........police officers are the working man too.

And yes its all about money.....thats why I ran into a burning building and save a 5 year old childs life. I have no compassion for people.
P.S. you may hate me and think Im lazy and a coward, but I would still give my life for yours....because I am better than you.

Signed Officer Coward. AKA "Pig"

In my town, population 135,000, there are about 200 cops on patrol at any one time. So, that means that every cop is responsible for watching 675 people. If you take away the part of the population that doesn't get into trouble, you're down to maybe 200. One person against 200. Not good odds, my militant friend! So, I would say that the attitude you perceive of as 'arrogant' is an attitude meant to keep you on the defensive and keep the cop from getting ganged up by 200 'suspects'. Do I like cops? Not really, but I know they have a really sucky job and they can keep it. Sounds good!

The main reason for the attitude you are questioning is the exclusivity of the police as a whole. You see, when one becomes a police officer the are ostracized from everyone around them, for those peoples fear of a police officer.
While some people have nothing to hide, a great deal more have things in their lives that make them fear contact with the police.

Add to that the feeling of "Police and civilian" separatist ideology that most Police Academies promote, making it standard for a police officer to separate themselves from civilians.

When these factors come together, and are multiplied by the real fear that a police officer must have when performing their jobs, the fact that police are lied to more than not, you have a combustible combination that results in disassociation with the common man. If all you see of the common man is the dregs, criminals, rapists, lairs and schemers then a rationalized belief that everyone besides police officers are unsavory could develop.

That is a least what I think.

Good cops bad cops same as everyone else in a position of authority. There is profiling everywhere. It helps to have friends in law enforcement especially if you're on their side. Otherwise you're just another statistic and more paperwork. Besides they are the minority by comparison. If you live in a high crime area the odds are against you eventually and them. I don't envy you or them. Everyone needs to survive and I get that. For them it's a war zone out there. If gangs are going to kill each other they don't want to be in the middle, I know I wouldn't. If cops stopped working it would start to be more like Iraq and that doesn't help you either. As for BS it's all BS and vacations are never long enough. Have a nice day.

Feeling superior - because they can get away with just about everything that you and I can't and don't for one second believe they're angels. The ability to pick and choose whose life their going to mess with while doing whatever it is they want to do simply gives them superiority. Top notch hypocrites with a tight brother/sisterhood that cover for each other very well.
Respect - When they're going after true criminals and not being one themselves they truly deserve respect. I'm all for them when they bust a kid killer/rapist or that dude swerving all over the place, etc.. but when there are lies, cover-ups and hassling of folks just because they are bored and can get away with it or when you see them at the same party/bar driving off or when they make some kid think he's getting a break by not busting him for a little bit of pot when in reality it's just being taken home for the cops girlfriend/boyfriend, respect goes right out the window.
Better than us - Obviously I think not
Job - I respect what the job is really suppose to be about and there have to be rules along with someone to enforce them otherwise we'd have chaos. I blame most of the bad stuff that happens in the U.S. on parents not doing their job as parents. Anyway different subject altogether. If the cops truly did their jobs and lived their lives like they're supposed to I believe they'd earn more respect, at least mine anyway.

When your house is broken into in the middle of the night, or you are held at gunpoint outside your favorite bar...call an electrician, a construction worker or a ship yard worker. Look at how many police officers die each year in the line of duty...you will realize the pistol, mace, billy club and radios don't always work. I have never had a negative encounter with a police officer...most try to help ppl, do their job to the best of their ability and training, and go home safely at the end of the shift. If you feel they have somehow failed you...do what my son did...ENTER THE POLICE ACADEMY< BECOME A COP

I'm a cop and I'm not going to tell you there are no ***hole cops out there hell I've met a few myself. I will say that many officers such as myself have taken psychology and have learned how to judge a persons attitude, now you said you where arrested for public intox. and D.U.I. these are both crimes in which most times an officer is verbally and physically accosted no one wants to be accosted not even an officer and most rookies wind up becoming ***holes due to this type of behavior most people think that when an officer puts on a uniform their automatically supposed to take s**t off of them.. an officer is a person just like everyone else we are not above the law we uphold the law and we have bad days just like everyone else....
