Trimming your hair just a little every six weeks DOES help it grow faster because...split ends start to develop around that time and the longest part falls off first. That's why you see women with really long stringy hair, cause they don't get it cut often and the ends are nasty looking.
Take good care of your hair. Go to a professional and get deep heating treatments once a month and trims every 6 weeks. Professionals have products that you can't buy over the counter... ask them what they use for the treatments. I have my own formula and everyone loves it. I use it myself every two weeks.
I would also keep you hair up in a clip as much as possible until it gets to the length you feel is good for you. Weight will help keep the poofies away. Also hair gloss helps. Use an iron only on special occasions.

Cutting your hair does NOT make it grow faster. Where's the logic in that? Trimming the ends will eliminate split ends, but only do that once in a long while otherwise you'll just end up cutting off whatever you've grown out.
Have you tried blow drying it straight? Use products to weigh down and moisturize your hair. If your hair is frizzy from all the hair coloring and abuse, you may just have to cut all the damaged part off because no matter what you do, the damaged part will never go back to being healthy.

Hi your hair sounds exactly like mine, mines thick and never seems to grow, and it thck and frizzy, i have to straigthen mine to make it look smooth. The best thing i did was to get a good conditioner and massage my scalp, you cant get shampoos for your scalp to penetrate it so it stimulates you scalp and lets your hair grow. Also dont dye it will the last colour has wash out as your hair gets brittle and breaks of causeing it not to grow.I havent dyed my hair for a few months now and already its grown and it better condition. My hair has ever grown so fast, i use rehab shampoo from Lush, I think its this helping my hair to grow, it also smooths it out alot. If you havent got a pair of hair straighteners i would get a pair with high heat as they work owunders, just remember to use a leaving conditioner and heat protection spray

You need to ask to your hairdressers to thin your hair out, this way your hair won't look so frizzy. Trust me I used to have that problem and by thining it out my hair is sleek and pretty long.

Have you tried relaxer? It will relax your hair so it won't be puffy. You can buy it in kits or get it done at a salon. I don't think it's bad for your hair at all.
