Been overstressed & depressed for months. For the last 2 weeks I've been noticing bruises on my arms & legs but don't know how they got there. I don't sleepwalk, toss in my sleep, not clumsy, not being abused by anyone. I take my meds, see my Dr. Could this lead up to cutting & blocking it out?

hello finding bruises that you don't remember causing might not necessarily be you hurting yourself. some medications can make you more likely to bruise and you should see you Dr and show them the bruises so that they can do a simple blood test to make sure that you have the right level of medicine in your blood stream. its nothing to worry about and if you read the leaflet that comes with your medicines it will probably say something in there about it.
second. if the marks are from deliberate injury: hurting yourself in any way is known as self harm, cutting is another form of self harm. people use many different methods and don't necessarily switch from one form to another. the website below is a brilliant site used by professionals and self harmer's as a mutual site of information and support. you can use it anonymously and you can register, there is information about all forms of self harm first aid links on how to get help and also about various medicines and there side effects, you can also ask people about their experiences with medication and coping techniques. i hope this helps.

Cutting is a popular form of self-injury today, and it is on the rise among younger people. Teenagers cutting themselves is a sign of emotional pain but it can also lead to major physical harm and even death. Self mutilation is done to relieve emotional pain and is a sign of deep depression. Cutting is something that a person can control and it feels good because the may not feel they can control anything else in their lives. It is a cry for help and should never be ignored. If the person who is cutting themselves doesn't seek help, then a friend or responsible adult should get them the professional help needed to stop this behavior. I hope this helps.

hoenstly i dont knwo if that would lead up to cutting . my question would be why do u jump to that conclusion? as a cutter for em it began as very small steps towards a big leap. i do think u should let ur doctor know about the bruising could be medication , some meds make bruising more common even if ur barely aware of bumping into things. if u feel u r going to harm urself please seek proffessional help asap !
good luck!!!

Anger, constant untreated depression, a lot of emotional pain, trying to replace the pain you are feeling with another pain, a cry for help, unable to communicate your feelings, feeling alone and unheard by loved ones. Cutting is a way to relieve yourself of the pain that you are feeling inside. If you feel like hurting yourself you should let an adult know and seek professional help, believe me the scars that is left behind will be a constant reminder of the pain you were in. It will make it harder for you to move on and heal.

I don't think bruises are a symptom or forerunner of cutting.

It's possible you are just not paying attention to what you are doing. The mind can process only one kind of pain at a time, and if you are in emotional pain, that counts.

Also your meds could be thinning your blood. Be sure to check this with your doctor.

Yes my niece is a cutter and some of it is based on being depressed. She even wrote/cut FAT on her arm.... there's a lot of issues in her life that has not helped her situation. Medication helped but that was only for the surface of the problem from what I can see. If you are a cutter, seek help but if it's someone else, be supportive and see that they get help!

Sometimes there r and sometimes we just get so angry and leave it all in pent up in out heads instead of venting we start to self mutilate ourselves. I am one of these people. My doctor has me on an anti psychotic and it has gotten a lot better. Maybe you should see a shrink i had to but i do feel a lot better and don't do it as often as i used to.

I guess if the person gets so depressed and life becomes so hard, and that person cuts them self because they'd rather see the pain physically happening to themselves than hurting inside. You know what I mean? ...
Ya, Neither do I.
That's just my guess.

Either that or you could be anemic or have other important vitamins missing in your diet. Try going to a doctor to be safe.
