I haven't tried it, but my Mom goes on the cabbage soup diet once a year, right after the New Year. She eats sensibly for most of the year, but finds that she can't resist a whole season of Christmas sweets, so she goes on this diet to lose ten pounds, which she regains every year again at Christmastime. It's kept her at about the same weight for many years, so I guess it works for her!
People who go on the diet tend to lose 7-10 lbs in the week it lasts. It tends not to be permanent on its own, because it is a really restricted diet. If you eat in a way that makes you fat, go on that diet, and go back to eating the way that got you to be overweight in the first place soon as it's over, of course you'll gain the weight back.
If you use it as a yearly check on your weight gain it can help you maintain your weight.
If you use it to kickstart a major diet change it can also help. Because it is so restrictive, people use it as a kind of "cleanse" if they feel addicted to sweets and need to not eat them in order to lose weight. It also makes people feel good at the beginning of a diet, because they think "oh, look how much I lost already!"
It's not something you should use frequently, I think you're not supposed to go on the cabbage soup diet more once a month, for health reasons. It isn't a great diet in itself, but it can be a great start to changing the way you eat every day or getting rid of those cravings for sweets. Of course, the best way to lose weight permanently is to eat less and exercise more!

I have tried it and for those who say it's not healthy they don't know. You eat more than just soup. You do seven days on and 2 days off. I lost about 6-9 lbs the first week then an average of 4-6 after that. I stopped after a month though because I had gotten to where I wanted to be. You will gain it back if you don't eat healthy or exercise. I have the recipe and the instructions at home if you want them. Msg me and I'll send them to you. Oh and if you add a pinch of mustard powder and ginger to the soup it takes the gas out of the cabbage.

The simple answer is that diets don't work.
Only a change in lifestyle.
If you eat 600 calories of cabbage soup every day you'll lose weight. if you eat 600 calories of marshmellos every day, you'll lose weight. But neither are healthy and neither are sustainable.
Cut out the soda and starbucks (or at least 90% of it)
Minimize white foods.
And eat MORE fruits and veggies.
And do this for the rest of your life.

I have not tried it, but with any diet you may choose...you will lose weight successfully if you eat right and exercise. A diet consist of changing your lifestyle for life. Once you stop dieting and exercising regularly you WILL gain it back. It also depends on those individuals who drink and smoke as this also has an affect on your body.
Exercise with Proper food and Nutrition is GOOD!
Best Advice is to:
Stay away or limit your intake on JUNK FOOD.
That means fast foods, Pop, Caffeine , Chips, Sweets, Alcohol, etc......

did about 4 years ago...lost about 8 pounds in 2 weeks....gained it all back in about a month....could have taken longer if food didn't taste soooo good after cabbage soup for 2 weeks!!!!
use it if you have a wedding or a reunoin or are going on a cruise and only need to look really good for a short time....it's not a long term fix

I have not but, I don't suggest doing a "get thin quick" diet. If you just balance your food, exercise.. don't eat after 8 o'clock---that sort of thing, you'll loose weight over time and stay healthy without cutting back too much or torturing yourself. It takes a lot of willpower and patience but, it's the best way to do it.

Yes, it's gets very old and you will loose interest [not much weight] after three days. A steady diet of cabbage isn't what I need. I need portion control!

Wierd, all you eat is cabbage soup? i'm a vegan, and that is NOT healthy at all! If you eat a big breakfast and lunch, and no supper or only fruit for supper...you will lose weight. and feel good in the process and you won't lose more than is good for you.
