Oh dear, usual crop of crappy answers at the start.
I write this assuming that you are an 'intending' visitor to London, possibly staying near the station. A short walk from Paddington station takes you to the area on the Grand Junction canal known as "Little Venice", and if you're feeling lazy, it's just a two minute tube ride to WARWICK AVENUE. Apart from being a very pretty area with an island in the middle of a three-way canal junction there are various boats there. Within a very short strolling distance you will find several renowned eateries on the boats moored alongside the towpath, a nice pub or two, there is a childrens' theatre on one of the boats, and boat trips to the zoo and Camden Lock. The area itself consists of some large houses of architechtural merit, most of which are at least in section two of The English Heritage preservation grouping, so they're not ramshackle! The area between here and Paddington station has recently been extensively rebuilt and is well worth a look just for its innovative style of buildings - quite the opposite to those at Little Venice. During the construction work they unearthed an original bridge built there by Isambard Kingdom Brunel when he was building the Great Western Railway and the main station. The area immediately surrounding the station consists of cheap hotels and loads of places to eat and drink. From the station you can access all parts of London with great ease either by bus or underground train. It's just over a mile to Marble Arch, Hyde Park and the shopping areas of Oxford Street. For advice on clubs I suggest you pick up one of the freebie newspapers that abound in stands around the station entrances - these will be full of adverts for everything you are likely to need and will be up-to-date, or of course buy a copy of "What's On" or the London "Evening Standard" newspaper (which, despite its name, comes out quite early in the day. If you ARE a visitor, you can pick up a free tube map at any underground station, and if you're staying for more than a day or two get yourself an "Oyster" card - this will give you reasonably priced travel (you pay in advance to get the card) which otherwise can work out very expensively. (These cards can even be purchased on line - go to Tfl London for details). Of course, it's just struck me that if you're NOT a visitor, I'm making myself look a bit of a pratt after all this typing, but if you're genuine, have a nice time. Padd is very central to practically everything in London. (and no, I'm not a tourist guide...!)
