Based only on the information you give (which is NONE!), I'd say Russian. It is widely understood in republics of the former Soviet Union and, of course, Russia's officilal language. Many more people around the world know Russian that the ones speaking Georgian.
Besides that.. Russian is easier for Americans to learn.
To the guy who says Georgian is a mix: Man, you haven't heard not read Georgian in the past, right? Don't give those misleading opinions, please.

You will find Georgian to be more foreign and difficult in terms of grammar and pronunciation. Russian, like English, is an Indoeuropean language; Georgian belongs to the Kartvelian linguistic family. You will also find more materials to help you learn and speak Russian. However, Georgian IS a very fascinating language. I used Howard I. Aronson's book, "Georgian: A Reading Grammar", to learn some Georgian.

They speak Russian in Georgia, but they don't speak Georgian in Russia (not much, at least). Russian is the English of the Eastern World.

I studied Russian for three semesters and Russian is much more difficult than Georgian. However; with Russian, you have the advantage of understanding more and your language skills will be much keener by comparison.

Georgian is a regional dialect of Russian, a mixture of Russian, Czech, and Slavic. For the sake of purity, learn Russian first, then the derivations thereof, it will be easier that way.
