My sister is 28. We have never had a very good relationship that really came to a head two years ago when she called me a #itch in front of my young child. I have never felt comfortable saying much to her for fear that it will blow up in my face. She is so sensitive that I once made a very joking comment and she was hurt and cried and drove 4 hours home that night. No one else understood where her hurt feelings were coming from either that evening. The family joked several months ago (before she got preg) that she needed to plan it so that the baby was born on the one of 3 months that the family doesn't have a birthday. "So we can have B-day cake once a month, instead of several in one month" She laughed at that and agreed to try. She called this morning to tell me her baby was due in Feb. I wanted to say "That is not good enough we need that baby in March" but out of fear I didn't say anything. Now she thinks I'm being rude because I didn't say much. Any thoughts?

Sounds like she might be a little tender hearted and has a hard time taking a joke. Like she gets her feelings hurt easy. I know that feeling cause I am that way to,(gets feelings hurt easy) but she shouldn't go to the extreme that she is going to. She would have hurt my feelings very badly when she called you a b**** and in front of your kids to boot. That is one thing that I can't and will not tolerate, is being called a b****, I will not call anybody that nor do I want any one calling me that. I am not a DOG!!!!
I would just tell her how I feel about the comments that are made and then see what happens. Take one of the comments that was said...."say this is what so and so said and this is what you said. AND We are afraid to joke with you in fear that you will get upset about stuff and then get mad at us and say something bad, and we ARE very happy about the baby, even if it is going to be born in Feb. joke joke joke instead of one of the other 3 months."

Knowing how to deal with certain people is a true gift and I think you know how to be careful about what you say so that you don't hurt her feelings. The same joke might mean something completely different to two different people.
Explain that you were just being carefull not to give the wrong impression. The most important thing is to be happy an dto support her 100 % and let it show !!

Don't let her control you. I know it's hard, but she needs to know that she can't force others to make her the center of attention. If she gets mad because you won't talk to her, tell her flat out that you were concerned because she's taken things the wrong way in the past, and you didn't want to trigger another misunderstanding. Leave it at that. Keep repeating it as much as necessary. She'll eventually realize that she can't bully you by forcing you to give in to keep her happy.

Jesus freakin Christ!!!! She's 28 years old!!! Tell her to toughen up..... if she doesn't her kids gonna eventually say something to hurt her feelings and then what? Just say what you want to her without being too rough and she'll get used to it. Treating her like a little baby and censuring yourselves around her is only going to make it worse.

Sounds like she has some real family issues, call her often ask hows shes feeling and maybe go out to lunch, she is insecure and its hard to tell why.

try and get her to see that your only trying to get her to loosen up......its a hard thing to do when people are wound up so tight though, maybe there are reasons why she is like this, try understanding her point of veiw as well.
