I have MicroSoft Word 2000. Typically when I highlight any portion of a sentence and start typing it replaces what I highlighted. Now for some reason when I do it no longer replaces it. It just inserts what I am typing next to the highlighted portion, rather than replacing it. Anyone know what might be going on?

I've tried pressing 'insert'. I know what insert does and thought that was the problem, but it isn't.

Go to Tools -> Options. In the window that appears choose the Edit tab. Make sure the "Typing replaces selection" option is selected. Click OK and see if it works.

press 'insert' key on your keyboard and you can toggle(on and off ) this function. find 'insert' key usually on the right side of your alphabet keys.
