You are very correct. When we force others into a faith we bring resentment and further violence. Religion should be a personal choice and informed choice not something that you do because your parents did it or because someone else said if I don't worship this way I will be harmed. But sadly a lot of religions don't follow that philosophy and are out to grab as many followers as possible.

There is only one true way , Jesus Christ . John 14:6 . Forcing anything is usually caused by the person or persons views . It's like going to school , you have to take some courses to pass , but there are some things you can choose from that aren't requirements . The problem is there are too many man made religions and that will be man's downfall . False doctrine will literally wipe out the majority of mankind from salvation . Look at what the Bible has predicted and see with your own eyes that it is coming true . Matthew Chapter 24 . Be aware that we are living in the last days and the end is near . If you have any beliefs , now might be a time to rethink and allow yourself to let God show you through His Word . Read the book of John . May God with His awesome power watch over you and your family

Now if you lived in Jesus' time, would you have said that then, too? He and his disciples went around preaching to many different cities. The objective was to help others, not be pushy. Many people are being taught lies as God's word, as in Jesus' day and he said to his followers to keep on preaching the word. If someone doesn't listen, that is their choice. Nobody has forced anyone in this country to be of a certain religion. From a Christian standpoint "just letting people be" is like watching someone about to get hit by a car and not doing anything.

A common misconception is that Jehovah's Witnesses go from door-to-door because they feel it is their duty to get a householder to "change his mind". In fact, Jehovah's Witnesses would go from door-to-door even if there were no hope that anyone would change their religion, or even if no one would listen to them!
That is because Jesus Christ specifically assigned the house-to-house ministry to the Christian congregation, with no regard for specific results.
(Luke 10:1,2) After these things the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos in advance of him into every city and place to which he himself was going to come. 2 Then he began to say to them: “The harvest, indeed, is great, but the workers are few. Therefore beg the Master of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.
Jehovah's Witnesses are trained to direct attention to the bible, and move on when their message is unwanted. Since each congregation in the United States tries to call at every home in its territory at least twice each year, there is strong motivation for them to move on where little interest is shown. Also, the Scriptures help the Witnesses to expect little interest from most:
(2 Timothy 4:3-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching ...and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories. You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.

When we love something passionately (for me, it's meditation and yoga) we want to share it with everyone. We feel if it makes us so happy, it will make others happy.
I know that if someone is not open to meditation, it's best not to push. If they're interested, they'll ask me questions and I'll do what I can to share my knowledge and experiences. If they have no interest, that's fine. I enjoy it for myself, and with those who want to share it. For anyone else, that's their choice, and I make no judgement on them.
There are some religions that actually feel anyone not part of their religion is in danger (i.e. of going to hell) so they aren't as "live and let live" as I am. I'm beginning to understand this about them, although I'll always strongly disagree with their methods and judgements.

It is a control thing....People think they are doing other people a favor by trying to lead them to what they believe is the truth. In doing this they oppress others.
I believe in the Lord, but when I hear the canned salvation message, it is like nails on a chalkboard to me. If they really knew the Lord, then they would know that he is saying, stop doing this.

Yes, we should let people be. People can't be bullied into following a religion. They will become annoyed, and probably turn away from that religious path. (I've heard the term "Hell-bullies" used before, and it is very appropriate!)
