Being sanctified describes the process of being "set apart unto God." This refers to the growth towards actual righteousness (as opposed to imputed righteousness) that is supposed to be taking place in the life of the believer as a result of the work of the Holy Spirit in that person's life.

Levi I,
This is one of those questions that get people thinking.
To me sanctified means that we are "set aside." That brings up another word, " Holy." That means dedicated.
So God considers the Christian set aside and dedicated to Him. He puts his Spirit in us and we become His.
Another way I can look at it is that His Spirit makes us a New Creation, something that hasn't happen in the World until God's Spirit poured out upon men after Jesus died.
It's just not something I think about much, as in the definition. But I'm glad that you reminded me.

To be blessed and held holy. For example, sanctified land is the grounds around a church. Or a sanctified person would be a minister (Protestant) or a priest (Catholic).
