If God is the One who decides who gets everlasting life and who doesn't, would it not make sense then to get God's viewpoint on matters and not seek our own interpretation of His word? I see many saying that the Bible is left up to our own interpretation, wouldn't it seem reasonable to conclude that God's interpretation of His own word would be most important? If God is a being seperate from us with His own ideas and opinions, does it not make sense that He may not agree with us on everything that we may feel or think? Jesus said that his followers must worship with "spirit and truth" John 4:24 How many different variations of the truth can there be? How can truth contradict itself? I am writing this in response to those who say the Bible is left up to our own interpretation and that our religion does not matter.

To 2_E - God gave us free will because he wanted us to serve Him out of love rather than doing it because of being forced. He could have put it in us to worship Him like an instinct, like insects have. Rather, He gave us a choice in the matter. If you read the stories of His servants in the past, free will in no way meant that there were not wrong decisions, and it did not mean that there were not consequences for making a wrong decision.

To boukenger - We must rely on God's Holy Spirit, have a humble and sincere heart, and there are translations that are accurate. God promised us He would make sure of that in the Bible. This does not mean that you will accept the truth when you see it. That part is up to you.

If there is one true interpretation, then how are we supposed to get it from a book originally written thousands of years ago (by humans) which has been re-translated and altered over time? I'm no christian, but I've read a great deal of the bible and I cannot see how even a literal interpretaion of it can possibly be the "correct" way of interpreting it.

God wouldnt have created free will If he decided who get's everlasting life. It's the persons choice to except Him. I think it would be wise to care about God's veiwpoint. He made you and He can take you out of this world.

You are so right! Many people will look for a church that fulfills their needs, instead of finding one that worships the way that God wants. I think that if you were to worship someone, you would want to please them, and that would mean doing things their way and not ours!
