I'm a 15 year old who takes all upper level classes. Everyone tells me I put too much stress on myself and that I need to relax a bit because otherwise I'm going to hurt myself mentally.
Just wondering, exactly what would I do to myself? How would I get hurt mentally?
(please seriously answer this)

My granddaughter is in gifted classes and she loves the challenge. She says she is bored in the regular classes because it's too easy for her. She seems to have no problems whatsoever. She still acts like a normal child outside the classroom. If you like what you are doing and it doesn't stress you out, what harm can it do? I think a lot of people don't understand people with higher IQ's, and are jealous of them to an extent. You have to decide for yourself if it's too stressful or not. If it's not, then there is no mental harm being done. As long as you have a normal life outside the classroom, don't worry about what other people say.

Many people do not understand, that you are a driven individual, and perhaps this is the way you work best. Maybe you would hurt yourself more to be lazy and laid back. I always found I was in my element when I had about four or five projects going at the same time. It is just the way you are made, and although they think it would maybe drain you eventually, it is because they probably just don't understand you...I think that if you have to ask how you would get hurt mentally, then it isn't bothering you in the least. I can understand that they would want you to have some fun, as all work and no play makes Jane or jack a dull person. or so the saying goes. Just do you thing and I am sure you will know when you have bitten off more than you can chew Good luck and God Bless

Mainly, there's a lot of pressure to stay on top and prove that you are just as smart as the older kids. Also there will be peer pressure to do what the older ones do since you are in their classes. If there is a big age difference, then there can also be maturity issues. As long as you remember your goals in life and your values, you should be okay. It is a very good idea to take time to be with friends every once in a while and have someone that you can talk to. Don't put too much pressure on yourself, but don't slow down just because others think you should. It's your life and what you do now may affect you the rest of your life,so stay the course and most importantly, BE HAPPY!!

Just male sure that you have a well-balanced life. Don't forget to have fun. Taking all upper level classes is great, but also go out with friends, have family time, and enjoy being in high school. Colleges look at grades and SATs, but they really want students that are well-rounded. Play a sport, join a club.

They mean that you could burn out. People handle stress differently, and if you take on too much, you're going to eventually burn out.. it's mental and physical exhaustion from pressure of either performing well, or having not been capable of handling as much as you thought you could in the beginning.

There are teens who are extremely interested in fun and games, without responsibility.. then there are those who have a keen interest in gaining as much knowledge as they can.. They have a direction for their life and it seems to supercede what others feel is, so called "normal." Investigating the various areas of knowledge, can be just as fulfilling as partying is for others.

It's hard to tell, because different people react to stress differently. It depends on genetics and how they were brought up.

But why take the chance? Being a teen should be enjoyed as much as possible.

If you can handle it all then you are the best judge of what you can do.If you are a workaholic then you are due for a nervous breakdown at any given time.
