My Mom has the same problem. It is a form of allergy. If you go to a good jeweler there is a cream that you put on before you put on the jewelry. It acts like a block and keeps your skin from turning black.
This should be your worst problem ever....

It has nothing to do with the gold being fake. When people come into my store with this problem the first question I ask them is, Are you pregnant? The reaction can be caused by low Iron, and many women that are expecting have low iron. another possibility is a reaction to a change in laundry detergent or other household cleaning agent. When you say 'better' gold I am assuming you mean higher gold content symbolized by 10k 14k 24k etc. This could be an allergic reaction but more likely is low iron in your body. Try taking Iron supplements and it should go away.

You are allergic to gold. Try wearing white gold, and if the same thing happens then its a gold allergy. I can not wear anything that is yellow gold or it turns orange and I get a rash. I have to wear white gold only.
you can also go to your doctor and have an allergy test done to make sure

An allergy is a hypersensitivity to a substance that causes the body to react to any contact with that substance.
Do I have an allergy to gold?
Probably not, that is not gold itself. What people occasionally have is an allergy to the nickel content in gold alloys, usually in the alloy rich 9ct golds. 9ct alloys go dull or even black from the exposure to chemicals in the atmosphere and also may discolour from contact with perspiration, bleach, household chemicals and some fabrics.

One of the property of the pure gold is, it does NOT react to much of anything. That's why it is used in a lot of industrial and electrical components.
You may be reacting to other metals in the alloy (anything less than 24K gold has in purity in them) or it is not gold at all.

You are allergic to the gold. My grandmother has the same problem. She is able to tolerate white gold, just not yellow gold.

That explains why I'm black - me and my family, ummmmm my race too!! I have to notify them to stop wearing gold so that we can fit in and get all benefits too.

this is fairly normal, and very treatable: DON'T WEAR IT!!! instead, wear hypoalergynic jewlry. if that makes u feel cheap, which it shouldn't, get a purse that has genuine gold on it. then u will be happy AND can still have a pure gold acessory! (mispelled)
