Yes Im okay with immigrants. Who else is going to clean hotels, work in heavy construction and run fast food joints, and pick fruits and vegetables in this country? A white american? Education is the only way to control population. If you make quotas such as in China, you will end up with the same problems as China - no females left to mate with the males. They made it law that a family could only have one child...since Males make more money, many Chinese either killed off their daughters or aborted until they had a male child. Now there are no females in the country. Yeah, great idea...

Your presumption is poorly drafted. One is 'OK' with undocumented aliens who have managed to live in the USA for twenty years without being detected, and who have raised American children and have American grandchildren.

The George W. Bush Right to the Ready (as in Rapture-Ready) is mixed on this: the corporate types want cheapo labor that will keep wages down. The America Firsters want the border closed and electric fences and machine gun nests built. Farmers just want somebody to pick their crops, and Americans by and large can't or won't. (The USA used to have a seasonal worker program for that.)

There are several reasonable propositions, but nobody is talking rationally.

And then there's NAFTA and Globalization. NAFTA means that US corn and other crops (including sugar and cotton which should never be grown in the continental USA but are because of subsidies) have wiped out less competitive Mexican crops. Impoverished farmers and farm workers come to America because if they don't die in the Arizona desert they will die at home.

Population control you ask for? That's not a serious issue in the US, where workers are needed to pay FICA/SET to cover the costs of your pension and your Medicaid. Population control is needed in India and in Africa and in all those countries where there is pressure to emigrate. I understand that Mexican birthrates are actually down: the way they went down in Quebec, Ireland and Italy after they discovered the Pill. And the priest stopped coming to the front door every year to make sure that Mom was pregnant again, or tell the reason why.

A good many of do not want illegal (keyword-illegal) immigrants here. Apparently, too many of us were asleep at the switch and let illegal immigration get to the point where it is like a cancer - easy to handle when small, a major problem when ignored. Don't blame the politicians for this - democrats or republicans - the blame lies with "we the people." Those 40% who vote, and the 60% who sit home and allow 40% of voters to decide for all of us. If you want to change things, help get out the vote!

Let's see, which countries are good at population control? China limits people to one child. Is that our model? Only tyrannical governments try to control their populations.

There is no intelligent reason to control a population. Consider how much the population has grown in the last 200 years. Do you think our Founders could have imagined the US could sustain 300 million people? Yet, as more people came, our economy grew--even faster than the population. Our technology has grown so that it's easier to feed people--so much so that we now face death from being too fat rather than starvation.

So, what's to control?

For starters the GOV needs to stop paying for babies having babies. Where i live there are 65% of girls 14-17 having babies, they are on the systems. Drop out of school. And then what they life off the system for as long as they can. Dads are no older. The Gov needs to stop with the crap. Women out there with kids form 3,4 different dads would it not be cheaper for the Gov to pay from them to get the tubes tied then to keep paying for people to have kids, then feed them, house them, and I am not trying to be mean. All kids should be taken care of. But by there parents not the Tax payers. And yes we take care of alot of Illegals, but there is also good ones out there. That work and do not want hand outs! just to work.

Good answer one voice! I guess not just illegals but most of the welfare people should get cut off after so many children. This needs to be made law. Cause I don't think it's right "we" have to pay for others to play. Bet if there were no welfare there wouldn't be as many kids. That's a start anyway. There are lots of ways.

the US fertility rate is currently right at (actually just below) the rate needed to reproduce the population. if the trend continues, and women continue to get more educated, we will begin to face the problem that japan and europe are now facing: a DECREASING population. with rising rates of women getting advanced degrees and careers, our fertility rate will continue to decrease to the point that our population will decrease and at some point we will realize that this is a problem (as they have in japan, where they are desperately trying to encourage women to have babies). as that happens, we will be begging immigrants to come in order to keep our economy afloat.

there is no control,as long as the goverment keeps paying for all these illegals to be born.they need to start giving out tubals and some vasectomys . to all these mexicans that have a baby every nine months.operating on them,would be a one time thing, these babies being born every nine months, is going to keep going and going.
