Don't skip meals (according to Weight Watchers) and exercise. It's just that simple. I know everyone has to try what will work for them but Slim Fast is NOT a lifestyle change. You may lose some weight while on it, but you can't live the rest of your life on Slim Fast, so when you go off it and begin to eat again-guess what-you'll gain the weight back. Losing weight is hard, but KEEPING it off is the other part of the battle. Try a diet that you can actually live on and I'll think you'll have better results.

GET OFF SLIMFAST!!! It doesn't work over the long-term and it's loaded with high fructose corn syrup, which is the father of all dietary evil (partially or fully hydrogenated oils are the mother of all dietary evil). If you REALLY want to ramp up your metabolism, exercise and more protein in your diet are the two best things you can do. After that, it's mostly common sense. Don't eat when you're not hungry, don't stuff yourself, stay away from all the "bad for you" stuff like soft drinks, fast food, junk food, saturated fat, refined flour/sugar and eat more "good for you" stuff like fresh fruits and vegetables, lowfat dairy products, nuts, lean meats (especially fish and poultry) and whole grain breads/cereals/pasta. Here's another tip: Take a tablespoonful of olive oil 3 times a day, preferably before meals. Not only is it high in monounsaturated fat, which is very good for you, it's a natural appetite suppressant. Oh, and be sure to drink plenty of water. Good luck!

There isn't a way to "raise" your metabolism per se. However, there are some things you can do to have your body burn calories more quickly.

First, as stated before, is exercise. By exercising, your body will burn more calories, and when you stop it will continue for a small amount of time to burn more.

Second, you can lift some weights and create lean muscle on your body. This doesn't mean becoming a body builder, but create lean muscle. This has been proven to burn more calories to sustain than fat.

Third, you can do some research on your diet and find out what foods (and quantities of them) will help you spur your metabolism. Some claim that having six small meals per day is better for you than having three large meals...that sort of thing.

Whatever you decide, good luck!

8 Ways to Speed Up Your Metabolism

By WLR Dietitian
Juliette Kellow BSc RD

Get active - it's a sure-fire way to increase the amount of muscle you have, which in turn will speed up your metabolism. Do a mixture of aerobic and resistance training for best results. And don't forget to be more active in your daily life too.

Eat little and often - there's evidence that eating small, regular meals throughout the day, rather than one or two large meals, may help to keep your metabolism ticking over. Surprisingly, around 10 percent of the calories we use each day go on digesting and absorbing food - so the more times you eat, the greater this effect is likely to be.

Eat plenty of protein-rich foods - research shows that around 25 percent of calories in a protein-rich meal may be burnt off. But make sure you choose low-fat protein foods such as lean meat, skinless chicken and low-fat dairy products.

Spice up meals - it's not an old wives tale after all! Spices like chilli are thought to raise metabolism by up to 50 percent for up to three hours after eating, due to increasing your heart rate. But before putting the local Indian takeaway on speed dial, work out which curries have the lowest calorie and fat content.

Swap you daily cuppa for green tea - there's evidence that it contains antioxidants that speed up metabolism.

Try a CLA supplement - more extensive studies need to be carried out before any definite conclusions can be drawn, but research has shown that conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) might increase muscle and therefore boost metabolism.

Chill out - research shows that being very cold can increase metabolism by up to 20 percent.

Have a sauna - being very hot is also thought to boost metabolism by about 20 percent (but check you don't have any underlying medical problems that mean you shouldn't go in saunas or steam rooms).

Get off the couch and do something. Raising a can of slimfast to your mouth doesn't count as excersize.

eat the same number of calories in a day, but break your meals up into 5 meals instead of 3. this will keep your metabolism going all day long!

however, a side effect is that you'll be hungry all the time!

another thing you can do is some light weight lifting. build a little lean muscle, that's what burns fat. having a little extra muscle will require more calories to maintain and to run the fat-burning machinery, forcing your metabolism to speed up.

Regular physical activity including muscle toning is a safe, practical and necessary way to improve your stamina/physical capacity while at the same time increasing your metabolism. Stronger muscles, not necessarily bigger, require more fuel to function burning fat in the process. Diets alone, no matter how good, will not improve your physical capacity or appearance. So, do not waste your money, eat healthy and fresh balanced meals, and exercise daily according to your individual objectives.

Exercise and a healthy diet. Be sure you are not restricting your caloric intake too much. If you don't take in a minimum amount of calories, the body will go into starvation mode and slow the metabolism to protect the body.

I have been personal training for a while and many of the women I work with don't realize the benefits of weight lifting increased metabolism being one. I hear this from a lot of my female clients the don't want to lift weight because they don't want to get big and I tell them they won't. Increasing your muscle mass will increase your metabolism making your cardio work even for efficient.
If you would like me to put a lifting program together for you go to my web site www.naturalselectionwellness.com. If you send me an e-mail through the "contact us" page I would be more then happy to put something together for you for free.

Believe it or not, but eating healthy on a regular basis raises your metabolism. If you starve yourself, or just try the liquid diets, your body goes into starvation mode and lowers your metabolism. It thinks it's going to need to conserve every little calorie you take in, so it hoards them. Try to eat every four hours, but light and healthy choices.
