are there cool places to go? cool people? where do most students that go to CSULB come from? SoCal?

Long Beach is a cool place to live.
yea we have the gangstas, but a lot of long beach is a very nice place. it is just in between la county and the oc. the beaches are not the best depending on where you go, however there is always something to do. if you do not want to hang out in long beach, you could take like a less than 30 minute train to la or you could go to the oc. most of the students who go to csulb or form long beach and the surrounding areas. csulb is a cool place to party. the dorms are cool. long beach is an expensive city, to do things you have to have money.

It depnds on what you mean by cool.
There are a lot of nice areas, the weather is nice, but there are also a large number of low lifes in the area. They have very strong rent control board, which means that housing is either VERY expensive, or very run down.
My neice goes to CSULB, she's from Orange County. Don't know where most of the student population comes from.

No. Long Beach is one of those could be good, could be bad places. Fun in the posh areas, but if you are a student, then you probably can't afford the creme de le creme housing. Anywhere outside of downtown get's pretty rough and they have been trying to "fix" it for the past 20 years. Take it how you like...

Its reasonably cool, close enough to LA and beach towns in the So. Bay and Orange County.

I like the Naples area of Long Beach the most.

It's nice, some great areas, up and coming areas, and some horrible areas. A lot to do there and close enough to do things in both LA and OC.

My brother lives there and he thinks its a great place to live. all i know is that there is a bad neighborhood and a good neighborhood. Try to get into the good neighborhood for your own safety!

the LBC is ok. there are some decent areas, mainly closer to the beach.
