I have a male Shih- Tzu who is very aggressive towards other males. Does any one else have this problem? If so, is there any thing you found to help alleviate the aggressiveness?

He is aggressive toward male humans and dogs. He shows no regard to females, except female dogs for obvious reasons.

Keep him on a leash, take him around another male dog and jerk the leash every time he even looks at the other dog. Then make him sit then eventuall lie down about 3 feet from the other male. Continue jerking the leash every time he even makes a noise torward the other dog. Give him firm commands and let him know that you expect and demand results. Show him you are in charge. Do this a few times a week and always let his interactions be supervised.

This is not a problem for an amateur to resolve... I have seen many well meaning people make the problem worse. I would recommend seeking the advise of a trainer with experience in dog-dog aggression. There is also a VERY inexpensive book avail from Amazon called "fiesty Fido" by Patricia Mcconnell!

Neutering might help, but some dogs are just aggressive to the same sex regardless. Good luck
