I don't support every religion. I do support everyone's rights to worship freely---at least to the point that it does not involve abusing or sacrificing an animal or person. I don't agree with any religion. I am a Chrisitan. Yet, I cannot deny freedom of religion based on my religion.....that just isn't logical.

Sure. Satanism is most often a faith in human beings and the power they have to control their own destiny, it's not generally the antithesis of the Judaio-Christian religions that gave it its supernatural figurehead. Indeed, those who "worship Satan" because they're angry at the Judaio-Christian god are regarded as really rather lame by mainstream Satanists. That being so, it's entirely possible to support every religion and not judge them, including Satanism, because even Satanism can lead some people to a clearer understanding of themselves and their world. Where's the problem?

Most of those people don't. I call it "supporting what is familiar". I mean think about it: they can support Christianity with no problem, and Judiasm, Islam is a little difficult for them to swallow, Buddihsm is too shaky to look at, you can't say the word "Hinduism" without elicting shudders from them, and they won't touch Wicca, let alone Satanism with a 10-foot pole. See the progression from the familiar to the unfamilar? That's the problem, instead of just opening up the mind, and letting the knowledge flow, we keep it closed to what we don't understand. Let people beleive what they want to believe, and let live. Everyone needs a belief system....no matter how different it is from our own.

As long as the intention of a particular religion is to lead men to God, then I don't have a problem with it. Religions which intend to lead people to follow other entities or in some manner lead men away from God are the ones I would not support.

P1012:4, 92:7.3 The many religions of Urantia are all good to the extent that they bring man to God and bring the realization of the Father to man. It is a fallacy for any group of religionists to conceive of their creed as The Truth; such attitudes bespeak more of theological arrogance than of certainty of faith. There is not a Urantia religion that could not profitably study and assimilate the best of the truths contained in every other faith, for all contain truth. Religionists would do better to borrow the best in their neighbors' living spiritual faith rather than to denounce the worst in their lingering superstitions and outworn rituals.

Well, considering that in general true Satanists are less likely to try and shove their religious beliefs down my throat than your average bible-thumper, in some cases I judge them to be better than some Christians with regards to respecting the rights and beliefs of others.

To Crowell - I don't know that many Wiccans repeat the lie of Satanism as "evil". Most of the Wiccans I know know what it really is, but don't feel that the philosophy suits them personally.

I think the largest detractors are the Christians, but I think LaVey brought that on himself with his choice of moniker. The "Up yours, Christians!" of calling it Satanism has, IMHO, caused more problems for the followers than was strictly necessary, because they have to spend so much time explaining that they don't worship an independent deity called "Satan" that it detracts from being able to explain what it is they DO believe.

It's funny how you capitalize Satanism, as if there is a shock factor released with it. I am a Laveyan Satanist, so yes I do support it. Perhaps if you knew what Satanism was, you wouldn't think that it was a big deal to support it.

I do not support any religion. I think people should be allowed to be a part of any religion they wish though. And, in the US, we are the freedom to chose the religion, or lack of religon we wish.

To the person who claims those others are not religions, the lacking the divine thingy, I would say to you, your religion lacks that myth as well. You are simply showing the arrogance that makes people dislike christians.

I support Satanism, but solely for the sheer pageantry and the parties always are awesome. Every Satanist knows at least 5 strippers and a superb blunt connection.

There isnt' anything evil about scientology or satanism, if you bother to step away from the christian propaganda and actually educate yourself about it.

Frankly, I don't think people should support all religions.

I think they should support people's freedom to believe what they want, not force their religion on others, and get on with life.

As long as the faith does not brainwash and abuse, I see no reason to be intolerant.

On that note however, I think Scientology is a cult that employs brainwashing and other abuse tactics to keep their members "in line" and I am not tolerant of that type of behavior.

On the other hand, Satanism is not the dark practice shown on TV and in movies and from the interactions I've had with Satanists, I see no reason to be intolerant of their beliefs.
