There are little muscles between your ribs. If they get stretched wrong or injured, they'll hurt when you breathe. It's called "costal chondritis". All you have to do is take some motrin or tylenol if it hurts too much or keeps you awake. It will heal all by itself in the next week.

You might have a bit of pleurisy... or it could just be growing pains. If you have asthma, that can sometimes cause pain in your chest muscles. I'd see a doctor should it become overly bothersome.

It could be a pulled muscle, it could be pneumonia or another infection. Your best bet is to see a doctor ASAP to rule out anything major and to treat whatever it is that's there.
