I always thought that Jesus was God's only son and that God sacrificed Jesus to save the sinners (per Christian teachings). Now, I've heard someone argue that Jesus and God are one, and that God died for our sins.

What do you think?

Also, if God did die for our sins...then isn't he dead?

ex christian here, i was taught God and Jesus were seperate people. when i left christianity i had to relearn things. one was christianity is a trap for those that refuse to think for themselves. Jesus was just a teacher, whether he was a God or not he hated being worshipped or idolized.

Yep! Jesus IS The God!

One of the ""three in one"" concept.
This is FOR SURE.

I cut-n-paste for you;
Q -- Trinity, I don't see the word trinity in the Bible. Were in the Bible is the
trinity mentioned ?

A -- Indeed the word trinity is not in the Bible, but the indicators certainly are.
Look up Psalm 45, and Psalm 110. Both indicate THE GOD speaking to
"HIS OTHER".....also......The Trinity is indicated in 1 John 5:7 if you are using
a King James Bible (others have removed or altered same).

In the Old Testament see Isaiah 44:6 --- and His redeemer I am ---.
and Isaiah 45:11 --- And His maker --.

My favourite indicator is 1 Corinthians 15:28 ! At some point The Trinity will once
again unite because THEN there will be no need for The Trinity !

Water appears as a liquid, steam, and ice. All three are one.
A Clover leaf has three segments, it is but ONE clover.

In both situations above, three are one. Why can't THE GOD do the same?

Yes Jesus is God! It's the trinity thing. It's very hard to explain because we can only think in a human perspective without God's help. The reason why a lot of people believe Jesus is God is that in the OT there are names and actions of God. Then in the NT there are names and actions of Jesus. They both match each other, and only God can do those actions like create heaven and earth, angels and humans, forgive sins, rise from the dead, and etc. When Jesus died on the cross he took on all our sins, but in three days he rose from the dead and appeared to many people. He conquered Death and Sin for us!

Since the word Trinity is used to represent God as a triune being, what is triune? Noah Webster defined the word triune to mean, "three in one." This means that God, a singular being, exists in a plural manner. This is why the term Godhead is often used in scripture (Acts 7:19, Romans 1:20, Collosians 2:9, etc.). God's very name implies His triune existence. The Hebrew name for God used in all known manuscriptsis ELOHIM, so Genesis 1:1 could read, "In the beginning ELOHIM created the heaven and the earth." The word ELOHIM means three in one. The word ELOHIM has both a singular and a plural usage in Hebrew, uniquely, the two usages are always simultaneous. The word ELOHIM can never be used in the plural form without implying the singular and vice-versa. Note also, that all Hebrew letters have a numeric value, all Hebrew words also have value. ELOHIM is an interesting word in that it has two values, three and one.

In Christianity there is what is referred to as The Holy Trinity: God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, these are the three manifestations of God. God sent Jesus into the world as a man who was also God. Jesus became the sacrifice for our sins so that we could have direct access to God. If you will look in the book of ACTS, chapter 1, verse 4-5 you will find reference to the Holy Spirit. Please e-mail me if this is not clear, and I will earnestly try to expand on this for you.

ok, this is really hard to explain and ultimately impossible to totally understand. That is why in order to believe it you need to have faith.

I believe that God is a Trinity (you won't find the word Trinity in the Bible, but there are references in several places where God refers to himself in the plural, as well as several occurances where God is in one of three persons)

There is God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. However, they are not three gods. God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are all one being and Almighty God. Kinda like an egg has the yolk, white, and shell. All three serve different purposes but are still one egg. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are all one.

Now, God the Father is creator and sustainer of the universe. He watches over us. God the Son is the person who came to Earth to live a perfect life, suffer and die so that we could be saved (Jesus). God the Holy Spirit allows us to have faith in him.

All three of them are part of the same God.

Jesus was, and is, God's only begotten perfect Son. He was present at creation, he has been part of God for all of eternity. God (the father) sent him to become human. Since he was human he was able to be subjected to the law, and since he was also God he was able to be perfect and keep the law. He was sacrificed in order to pay the price for all of our sins.

Then he rose from the dead. He is God. God did die for our sins and he rose from the dead.

I hope this helps and hasn't confused you. Please let me know if you have any questions. I would love to explain in more detail. God bless.

If you are Christian, then God does equal Jesus. There has been a lot of debate about this since Jesus died. Try doing some research about the duality of Christ too. It's very interesting.

However, for other people, God is not Jesus. God is just God. Otherwise, with monilarity, God presents her/himself as different "Gods" as well. (It's like there is a pantheon, but they are all different aspects of just one God.) There is also polytheism, duality, and many other ways to think about God.

Your original supposition was the same as the first Christians, they didn't believe Jesus was God either. Centuries later, church leaders decided that their religion would have more potency if its founder was the highest being in existence and not just the son of the highest being in existence.

Since a huge chunk of what Christians call "biblical truth" is really just old tradition, they don't think to question the origins of what they've been told.

God and Jesus are two different beings. Jesus is Gods son. When Jesus died for us he was ressurected 3 days later meaning he was brought back from the dead.

Take a look at water. (Stick with me through this; it's relevant to your God/Jesus question.) You know: the stuff known as H2O. It doesn't matter in what form it exists, it is still H2O. When it is ice, it is still H2O. When it is liquid in a cup or river, it is still H2O. As a vapor, like steam or fog, it is still H2O. While this property, this H2O makeup, is constant, the way it acts changes. For example, as ice, it cannot quench thirst; as steam, it cannot cool a beverage; and as liquid water it cannot float to the sky and provide us shade from the burning sun. Each form of H2O has unique qualities, yet it is still all H2O.

The idea is similar for God. God is three Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. In each Person, He is still completely God, but is a different aspect of the Whole Person God. Sometimes, we refer to God the Father as simply God, just as we sometimes refer to H2O as simply water instead of liquid water. This is a misnomer. The Whole Person God sent His only Son, Jesus (one Aspect of Himself), to die for the sins of the world. Then, as only God (or any Aspect of God) can, He rose from the dead. So, Jesus conquered the grave. He conquered sin. His blood shed so you don't have to.

I hope this helped clear the confusion.

Many blessings!

Because you appear to be sincere I will offer you one explanation:

Remember, the greatest doctors of the Church could not adequately explain the Trinity. Our minds may not be wired to understand this mystery, the way a dog's mind is not wired to understand complex mathematics.

I believe that God first chose to reveal Himself as Father, when humanity was in its infancy and could best relate to a father figure.

Then, as humanity matured, He chose to reveal Himself as the Son, a brother figure to humanity.

Finally God chose to reveal Himself as He truly is, Spirit. The New Testament says: God is Spirit.

So you see, God exists in three Divine Persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. And all Three are One.

This is just my explanation and you are free to believe what you will.

Best wishes,

H
