Yes, definitely, and so are the Iraqi people who struggle to protect and provide for their own families through all of this.
Interesting caution about hero worship from IloveJesus above. Thanks.
Itsjustme says "Our brave soldiers are just trying to make the world a safer place for democracy" Really? Is that what they signed up for? Or did they enlist to protect our country? Sounds like the World War II reason for war. I suppose that ties in with neocon labeling of Muslims as "Islamofascists". I get it now...
Great comment from hellinahandbasket. You're right we're hearing only about war criminals now, not everyday work of soldiers, heroic acts of soldiers, inhuman conditions they work under.
You know, the Bush administration could probably do more to get this information to the public. They have Fox News, radio outlets and a scattering of sympathetic reporters in the MSM. I wonder why not? I'd guess that they don't want real reports, profiles, day to day stuff coming out because they are afraid the bad news will outweigh the good, or soldiers will express political opinions at variance with the administrations'? However, most people know that our soldiers are working hard, are honorable and are doing the best job possible. More news coverage, blogs from soldiers in the papers and on line would be great so people could get something of a picture in their minds of how it is there, how it is to be a soldier.

Our troops need all the support they can get and you are right they are heros doing a job whether they agree with it or not and working under harsh conditions (it was 116 in the shade a couple of days ago in Baghdad!) they are not just fighting either they are rebuilding...schools, homes, water and sewer systems etc. you won't hear about that on CNN! Did you know that when there are injuries even if its the enemy our military comes second ?! The insurgents and locals get treated first, ours have to wait. And in addition to that our doctors are performing surgeries(free i might add) on locals and insurgents that have nothing to do with battle injuries....tonsils, appendix, etc. ironic isn't it that america and its military are getting such bad raps but i guess people only want to believe that they are all bad from the ones that have done bad. anyway, they will thank you for your support...and HOOOAH !!!!!

hey look at it from this point of view. If you were in Iraq actually living there, would you want your country living under the ocupation of soldeirs. What if the armies of the middle east came over to america because they suddenly decided that they were too dangerous what if you saw middle eastern troops yelling in arabic and thrreatening you with guns. Tell me how would you feel hm? The US troops shouldn't even be there heck, this isn't even a war. No one are heros in Iraq at this time. Only the Republicans see that they are doing a great job because they sent our troops there in the first place.

Yay soldiers! We need to show them more love.
I just want to say that I know a LOT of medics and I don't know a single one who would treat an insurgent or even a civilian before their buddies. If you've seen soldiers who come home... the whole "band of brothers" is true, and they're not going to help the enemy before someone who is closer than family.

the soldiers are doing a job just like every body else...trying to support their families...they dont want to be looked at as heros they just want people to shut up about how much they hate them...and how what they are doing is wrong...how can putting a roof over your childrens head and food on the table be wrong...i know some soldiers arent doing what is right but you cant judge a group by one...i dont like my husband over there but it is his job and i thank god everyday that i hear from him and not a military chaplain!!!!!!!!

Yes, they risk it all for us (non-Muslims) everyday, but don't overdo the 'hero worship' thing-no one can live up to that.
