It is strictly a matter of supply and demand. Airlines spend enormous resources in trying to determine how many seats they can sell at a given price; they want to fill as many seats as possible, but at as high a price as possible. As a result, fares change all the time.

Demand is the number one reason prices go up on plane tickets. If the plane tickets aren't being sold, they're going to drop the price so people think, well if I go here, then here it'll be cheaper. Etc. But if the destination is popular or the flight it popular, the prices will go up because they CAN get that much for them.

Since airline ticket prices are governed by the free market there are a number of factors that airlines use to set their prices. One of the most significant factors is the cost of jet fuel.

Of course any prediction of future fuel prices is little more than an educated guess. However, with the unstable price of oil these days I think it a good bet that fuel prices will be heading upward in the near future.

Gas prices and also the lack of passengers on certain flights. Probably if you follow the news about gas prices, you will have some kind of prediction. But of course, I don't hear too much about the prices going DOWN. I would book at least ten days early and use Priceline if you are flexible. Also, try alternate cities and consider a short drive. Hope this helps!

A lot of factors go into this, including cost of fuel, cost of services required for the plane, costs of fees, and last but not least, supply and demand. I would expect the price pressures on airlines to be going up generally.

Gas prices have a lot to do with it. No one can accurately predict what ticket prices will do unless the airline has released info about an increase.

Oil prices going up, causing fuel prices to go up. That is a very large cause. Also, many cheap airlines are using very old planes that need plenty of maintenance costs. They aren't going to stop going up.

gas prices is one reason, but if you go to a travel agent and ask about the price of a ticket it can be $200.00 for that day and then $250.00 the next because the tax you are charged for that ticket is in U.S dollars and they have to make the adjustment
