I have a friend who told me she was vegitarian. I have been for a while but, yesterday she was talking about eating chicken and dressing to the other girls at the gym when I asked her if it was vegitarian she said mostly except the broth I am not a snob about it and every one has their opinions but, I kind of felt lied to. Is this so bad?

Eating chicken is not vegetarian...at most pollotarian (is that a thing?)...Basically it boils down to she wants the status and ego boost she feels from calling herself a vegetarian, however she is not willing to make sacrifices like real vegetarians do for their morals.

I think some people take being a vegetarian very seriously and do not eat any meat... any kind of meat! Others just eat very little meat and call themselves vegetarian for whatever reason. I don't understand this... maybe it's an easy way for them to justify not eating meat often or certain kinds of meat, but I don't know why they just can't say they rarely eat meat instead of claiming to be vegetarian.

Whatever your reasons are, you are a vegetarian who eats no meat I assume, and so you should maybe tell her your reasons and why it is so important to you, because your reasons might differ from hers and so if you show her how seriously you take it versus how she is more relaxed about it, maybe she'll respect your beliefs more than she did in this case. You can't fault her for not knowing how strict you are or your reasons why, so let her know now, and hopefully she'll just quickly apologize and you can both move past this.

Good luck.

There is a chicken substitute available that is made of TVP. She might have used that for the chicken and used canned chicken broth which would be non-vegetarian. She didn't necessarily lie to you.

No, I think your friend is a fake vegetarian! You were lied to and I think she just wants the status of being a "vegetarian" like you!

Being a vegetarian isn't bad. Finding it necessary to lie about it is shallow and immature at best.
