its damn costly in our place the starting price for a 5.1 with AV receiver is from 600$ so not much scope for upgradation.

For just a receiver in the $600 range, just pick the features you like and ease of use. I know everyone likes "their" brand but it doesn't really matter much if you stay in like price ranges. I personally would pick the Yamaha out of these 3 by brand names but until i messed with them I really couldn't tell. Onkyo is another to look at.

Side note spend the same amount on speakers as the receiver and DVD player combined. The biggest impact is speakers by far.

I prefer Denon over the other two, but Yamaha will give you more different soundfields, but Denon usually will give you more bang for the buck, and their technology filters down from their top of the line to the bottom price or entry level systems.

Denon by far will have the best components for both the receiver portion and the speakers
