I think a great ice breaker is to make sort of jokes about home visiters, it makes people feel at ease... make up some quirky stories you've heard about "the dreaded home visits". lol
It'll make them laugh and relax

As a former foster parent, the social workers visits in home were quite pleasant. We discussed the child how he/she/they are improving and settling down. How the honey moon period was much shorter than we expected.
How the children are eating and playing together. What problems do I see on a daily basis that may need addressed by the social worker with the child. How the child relates to both foster parents. What types of play is involved with the whole family. How is religion being addressed with the child/children.
Then the social worker and myself would talk some about anything, laugh and share a trust with one another.
Hope this has helped.

Yeah, just be open and friendly with the person. If they are kids, ask them how have they been doing and what they're interested in. Make them feel as though you're not just there to take them away, because most kids will feel intimidated by a SW, again especially if they are children.

uhhhhh "hello"?? How about something like,

"Hello, I'm Joe Mumblypegg from Friends Medical Health support, and I'm here to assist, install, fix, discuss,"

You should always remain professional and avoid talking about medical problems except as it directly relates to your visit. Other subjects just waste your time and do not help the person you are visiting.

if your dealing with kids, get on their level on the floor and play with their toys with them while talking to the parents, and if the kids just happen to interupt like kids will do, just involve them in the conversation, if you are sayin something like '' how is Johnny doing today, oh samantha thats a great picture'' if the child just happens to put a picture in your face while your talking.. immediately put the attention to the child then go back to what you were saying to the parent..

Just say: Yes we are here to give you all implants so that we may more easily track your every movement, and force you to be more socially compliant.
If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit, and make them laugh.

I know something tell them where their parents are.
How is my parents doing? are they in jail for doing drugs?
Did the police shoot my daddy?
Or my all time favorite: Did you know my new foster daddy is having sex with me.
Now that's an ice breaker.

Just be polite and ask them how their day is going. DON'T OFFER THEM A BEER...and make certain nothing bad is lying around. Sincerity and politeness will go miles for you!
