I have a US visa until 2011, do I need to have it checked by the us embassy before I travel to the US again?

It would have been little bit helpful if you also added what is your status like H1B, F1 or J1.....
But I think you better go to the embassy to make sure everything is OK before planning to visit US just to be in the safe side. Because now a days rules changes so frequently.

Make sure you have a return air ticket to show at immigration.
