A ganglion is a mass of nerve cells usually found outside the central nervous system, from which axons arrive from the periphery and proceed to the spinal cord or brain. Yesm it could occur on the back of the heel. It's a sac-like swelling or cyst formed from the tissue that lines a joint or tendon.
