I need decorating ideas for a big wall in my house. Approx. 9 ft. ceilings. I'd like to hang some sort of cloth but don't know what I should really be looking for. All ideas are appreciated!

You can starch fabric to the wall. Simply dip it in liquid starch until it is saturated and apply it like wallpaper. The fabric will peel off if you ever want to use it for something else. Just launder the fabric and there is no damage to the wall. I've done this on large walls and framed the fabric with molding like a piece of art. If you use this technique, however, you must use lightweight fabric for the best adhesion.

I have a huge 2 story wall in my living room and have used it to display my collection of Chinese and Japanese robes, vintage clothing and venetian masks. I hang the clothes on drapery rods and give them a face with the masks.

You coudl find a blanket that has something really neat on it. I wouldn't go for a very heavy/thick/fuzzy one though because it will look tacky and gert dusty. Try a thin one.

Get a big flat sheet and paint something cool on it or just do some messy paintnig on it and call it "abstract". Do a unusual collection on your wall, like records. Buy abunch of old records from a junk store or garage sale for liek 10 for $1.00 and hang them all over your wall spaced evenly. That will look very cool. I know someone who has antique sprinklers hung on the wall. You can hang anything you want. Just space it out to fill the wall up better, i have a wall of crosses, a wall of naked lady paintings, a wall of liscense plates and metal signs...

Paint would be the least expensive solution. With one of those classes at Home Depot you could learn how to do a texture of some sort.
But there is always wall paper. Grass cloth hides nail holes if you want to hang things.

Fabric has gotten expensive these days. So that may not be an inexpensive way to go.

You didn't say which room it is. If in a bedroom, you could hang a beautiful quilt or if your living/family room is decorated in a casual or country style, a quilt would work also. Otherwise why not consider having a murial painted on your wall. Some of the lighter weight rugs have gone well in a mediteranian style room also. Happy hunting.

Hit the discount wall paper rack in your local wallpaper store. Or an unusual colored paint.
