It certainly does come at a suspicious time or should I say an auspicious time for the oil giant PB. But, when you allow such giant beastly corporations to exist, everything they do seems suspicious to somebody. I for one do not trust them for a moment, but I don't think they care, and no one is going to be able to prove otherwise.

I wonder... but I have no proof.
I find it very intresting that gasoline dropped in price in the mid 90's and everyone started buying SUVs. Dealers were practically pushing them out the door. Once a substantial number of them were on the road, the price of gasoline crept forever upward. I do believe that the Auto and Oil industries work together to drain every single penny they can out of the American people's pocket.

No. There is not secret cabal of oil execs who are plotting to bankrupt the world. But, it seems that they have unknowingly participated in a conspiracy to up the price of oil by failing to make any infrastructure upgrades for 30 years.
The question of who stalled the infrastructure is another issue. Much of it was regulation, some of it was a past drop-off in oil prices, some of it was laziness.

Here we go again with the paranoid delusions. Everyone is out to get us. The government just sits back in little meetings and try to come up with ways to pull things over and control the citizens of this country....The government is all about doing things to the people....the big companies only want to hurt the people.....how good of business would that be in the long run....
Look beyond your nose and see the big picture.....things happen....

No BP would drive much much larger revenues by producing oil rather then relying on the market to increase the price of oil on hand. The price of oil will increase by like 2-3% while they will probably loose 20-25% of their revenues. Simple business!

No. BP is reporting that 73% of it is in bad shape. I think they were trying to hold off shutting it down until prices stabilized but it couldn't hold that long.
My question is why not get tankers going up there as long as the water is open?

Isn't it convenient for BP they need to create another shortage. Every time there is a shortage, oil company profits rise to record levels. This stinks of corporate greed and corruption.
Our government did order them to check their equipment.. Grin smile wink!

My understnding is that BP is looking to avoid an ecological disaster and wants to respond responsibly to the environment so they had to shut it down and correct the faults in the pipeline.
Nobody wants another Exxon/Valdez on their hands.
