Domestic! Besides all of the above reasons, American manufacturers usually have much better Rebates &/or finance incentives, also lower maintenance costs.
Ford, just 'uped' their warranties too, much better than import warranties.

Why don't you buy a good ole American Mustang? Oh wait, it's only 60% American, the rest is Mexican.
Toyota and Honda employees contribute 10's of billions of dollars to the American Economy.
Dollar for Dollar, the Japanese cars beat the American cars easily. Only a Japanese car can you finance for 72 mos, put no money down, and come back 3 years later and owe what your car is worth. Try that in an American car, you will NEED the rebates to trade.
After 2 years selling cars I have come to the conclusion that you can only afford to buy American if you can afford to put 20% down, and finance for 48 or fewer months.
Japanese car owners have the luxury of not NEEDING a new car when the finish paying off their car. If you don't believe me, just go around to a bunch of used car lots and drive 6 year old cars with 100k mi. You will notice an EXAGERTATED difference between the average Honda/Toyota and the average domestic.
Also, when you are in the grocery store parking lot, and you see someone getting out of or into a car that you might be eyeing, ask them what they think about it. If it's a Toyota or Honda owner, you have a greater than 80% chance that the first response will be "love it." You only have that kind of reaction from a domestic owner if the car is less than 2 years old.
don't believe me? just try it.

The J.D. Power quality survey, a highly regarded trade publication
based on customer surveys shows that in some car segments
the domestics are just as good as or even better then foreign
manufacturers. If we want to keep America going then keep the money here in America. Foreign brands like Toyota act like
they are American. But that money goes to Japan.
No different then GM or Ford of Europe, that money comes
home here to the U.S.

If this is being asked out of respect for quality, I think foreign is the way to go. Look at a hair from your head. That's how small most U.S. automakers can measure to when building their parts. Now picture 10 hairs small enough to fit inside that hair......that's how small most foreign automakers measure to when building their cars.
If you are asking in regards to loyalty of nation, It dosent really matter. EVERY car company here in the states has interest in some other company that is overseas. So your money is getting spread around a little to everyone. Ford practically has interest in every car maker overseas. Toyota makes alot of cars here in the U.S, so not all the money goes to Japan upon buying one of their cars. Alot of it went to the Americans living here who built it. Nissan and Hyundai have alot of factories here as well giving Americans jobs.

Back a few years and I would have said foreign. Just better quality vehicles, more pride taken in the product. Now, alot of the foreighn vehicles have domestic parts on them and vise versa. So when you buy either, your getting a little bit of both. Unless however you buy a french, german, etc. car that is not sold in the U.S. but usually those are out of most price ranges.

I'd buy the car that you like the most... nowadays, so many of the parts are made abroad it's difficult to discern what's really foreign and what's really domestic.

Yeah I have to agree with ubet. It really all depends on what is important to you. I usually buy Hondas or Acuras. I owned an Audi and loved it however quickly got tired of the sky high repair and maintenance costs.

That all depends on what you are looking for.
American cars give you more value for the money, better power & more comfort.
Foreign (Japaneese) good reliablity, poor comfort & room, not many options
Foreign (European) poor reliability, high price, good comfort & options.
