I have heard that prunes can cure constipation. I am sure that brocolli and other green vegetables can help with constipation. Popcorn and apples are good tasting foods that has a lot of fiber in it. Try eating at least 25 grams of fiber a day. If you hate vegetables and can't do that everyday, then I suggest that you buy fiber pills at the supermarket or a nearby pharmacy. It is easier to get your full daily value of fiber from these pills. You can try looking this up on WebMd.com if my advice does not work or you might want to think about seeing a doctor if it lasts a long time, which it shouldn't.

Hi!!! I m an indian (going to be) physiotherapist.
I would like to suggest you yoga therapy** (coz this the best one you can do without stressing yourself out!!). Besides yoga you can also do abs (abdominal exercises). This will help to strengthen your abdominals which would prevent recurrence of the problem.

** You can perform the Pawanmuktasana (The Knee to chest) Posture.

Procedure:Fold both the legs at the knee joints. The arms should be folded around the legs.
You can lift up your head and try to touch your chin to your knees.
Remain in this posture till the suspension of breath(or till 4 seconds).
The knees and feet should remain together.
While inhaling release both the legs. One must rest before repeating the exercise

This asana helps people suffering from constipation and flatulence.
As the stomach is pressed and then allowed to go limp in this asana Prostate gland, the liver , urinary bladder, spleen, intestines and stomach are well exercised by it.

I am a registered nurse.

Some ideas to help...

Increase your fluid intake, especially water. Increase your daily fiber intake. Prune juice. If the problem is severe you may try over the counter medications, but I do not recommend this as your first choice. First try 4 ounces of warm sprite and 4 ounces of warm prune juice mixed. This usually works very quickly.

I've seen some of the other answers, avoid using laxitive, and just eat more fiber. That is whole grain bread which usually have at least 3 or more grams of fiber per serving ( 1 slice), veggies. and oatmeal of Kashi tlc bars, love em!

A couple cups of coffee usually does it for me, but another good option is to pig out on fruit. Fresh works okaay but dried works like a charm. Get a pack of the dried apricots--problem solved.
