Because I think that you spread straw under the growing strawberries to stop them rotting if they touch the wet ground.

I think strawberries may have gotten the name because they grow in fields in the straw. Blueberries are blue. Gooseberries are white, like a goose? I wonder what rasps are , the scratchy things on the vines, but blackberries have them too.Huckleberries are purple, what are huckles. Elderberries are kind of black and must be old.Currants are red and must be on time. How about cranberries.

sorry but they are sort of. the name strawberry comes from the fact when the plants die back in winter the runners look like straw. funny thing is gooseberries don't taste like goose

cause straw berries are named after where they are grown (Straw) and not the colour.......then youd have two red berries
