It started when i bought a bluetooth adaptor - this wouldn't install, and the software that it came with (Blue Soleil) will not uninstall, no matter what i do it always starts up whenever i boot up the computer. i'm still using Windows 98, so probably need to upgrade that, but don't want to waste my money unless the computer will be able to recognise USB devices and removee that bloody programme!

if still not working download a program called regseeker
go to program files delete B/Soliil file (do this in safe mode)
run regseeker to search any files assosiated with B/Soleil
and delete them (not in safe mode)
works well have done it several times with other progam

i totally understand your problem mate, i have a old compaq amarda running win 98 and its a pain, its wiped out my pcmcia drivers and i cant use my cd-rom
when windows 98 came out,it was around the same time as usb devices,so microsoft didnt put code in the operating system to run these devices,so when you installed a usb device you would physically have to find the cab.file and use this to install the device, its easy if you know how,but for a novice its a big ordeal
with reference to the uninstallation problem why not try this 3rd party uninstaller(http://www.download.com/QuikUninstall/3000-2096_4-10430466.html?tag=lst-0-4)
this will hopefully uninstall the program, and if you upgarde your pc to windows xp ,any usb device will be recognized as soon as you plug it in,it takes only seconds, when you use xp you will wonder how you ever survived before
also 98 has stoped receiving updates ,so you are also putting yourself at risk aswell
for a very cheap copy of windows xp go to dabs.com(http://www.dabs.com/productlist.aspx?&NavigationKey=11168&NavigationKey=4294958989&NavigationKey=4294959492&CategorySelectedId=11168&PageMode=1
good luck

I have Blue Soleil on my computer & it's not the greatess bit of software but I'm running XP - now to help you, go to control pannel click administrative tool then click sevices from here you should be able to disable Blue Soleil then re-start computer and go to control pannel again & remove Blue Soleil, before reinstalling go to windows update & be sure you have all the updates, do a spy & virus scan then try Blue Soleil again.

Good Luck.

that program is how your computer configs blue tooth.
to uninstall you will have to insure that alldevises are nolonger in use[wireless net, ect.]if it still wont uninstall via add remove programs, under the programs menue se if the program has a uninstall . . finally, if the info your computer needs in the registry is gone, you might try to re install compleat and then uninstall thru its own uninstall or add remove prog. last effort is found at the windows site[thats how i know about the removed reg files. up grade is requimended . who made your laptop? they are a great sorce of info for usb and for download in the bluetooth component file

try a secondary uininstaller in the all in one genius tool
http://www.acelogix.com/
( judt s trial but it helps) or try reinstalling the program in safe mode (admin if applicable) then uninstall it from there
check the providers site for debug probs
then go to your device manager, try update for all USb, and human interface devices
(hopefully you are using 98 SE if not i belive the update is free, for there was some bad bugs, i think one was a bios USB plug and play prob)
if still have probs use ace logix, ace utilities startup manager to remove the program from your start up , and then search for coresponding folders, delete them, reboot , run the wizard etc
we could do better if you give us the specific error code during uninstall???
