Looking through the girlfriend's cell phone text messages, and finding out that his girlfriend is secretly, and sweetly communicating with her ex, wouldn't the current boyfriend have a right to get very upset about it?... and to think that his girlfriend is not serious about the relationship... so he decides to make "white lies" (no cheating lies, just his living arrangement). And since the boyfriend had openly expressed to his girlfriend that it is hurtful for him knowing that she still communicates (or attempts to communicate) with her ex(es), yet she still does it anyway. And if my friend's decision to keep making "white lies" (about still having his own place, when he doesn't) is in direct retaliation to his girlfriend's misconduct of secretly initiating emails to ex(es), wouldn't you think that the boyfriend's decision to tell "white lies", is justified. Given the whole situation, wouldn't the gf be more considerate of the whole thing and give her boyfriend (my friend) a break.

Although his white lies are not justifiable, hell yeah he should be mad at her, and she should give him a break because he is not being hurting her, as she is him. What he should actually do is move on from her because in a sense, she is already a cheater.

wow...bit of a wordy question. um, i'd like to say that i feel that honesty is always the best policy. and in most cases it is. however, if your friend has already communicated to his girlfriend that it is hurtful to him that she still communicates with her exes, and yet she continues to do it, then i suppose that i could at least say that he's partially justified in misleading her about his living arrangements. I can honestly say, that if my gf was texting her ex, it would seriously bother me, but i would probably let her know just how much it bothered me right away. i think that it's pretty obvious that your friend's gf is not taking the relationship seriously, and if he really wants to make it right, he needs to confront her on the issue, rather than simply misleading her, and tell her that if she's not willing to sever communication with her exes, then he's going to walk. that's the only way that he'll know just how serious she is about the relationship and whether or not she's actually interested in pursuing it.

Ever heard "2 wrongs don't make a right"? His white lies are not "justified" by her bad behavior. Retaliation has no place in a loving relationship.
Sounds like they both need have a lot of maturing to do.

You're right. Your friend's gf should consider her bf's point of view. Since those guys are her ex, it is alright to still communicate with them, but when you say communicating secretly and sweetly is not acceptable. This girl does not respect your friend at all, and maybe it's time for your friend to move on or really talk things through with her.

they are one funny couple. i mean, what's the deal? they're both fooling each other. they should give each other a break!
*although, doing something bad in retaliation for being wronged can never be justified, the guy definitley should have been upset!

I think that they should just break up. If she's not serious about it and he's going to have revenge for it, they're not a good couple and need to just end it. You shouldn't have to deal with vengeance from your lover.

Ummm... What? That was worded horribly. o:
You have a right to be angry if she's texting 'sweet' messages to her ex. I mean, most people do get jealous like that...

She lies- he lies- they are perfect for each other. You can build a relationship when everyone is lying.
