No, but it's to their advantage to attend.

Not yet. There is legislation in the CA courts now that are trying to get it mandatory for kids to attend Pre-school. There is a lot of research that does support that pre-school and Kindergarten are very influential on how well a child does once they are in school. Considering the way the education system is set up now, every advantage you can give kids is necessary!

It is not mandatory to attend PK or Kindergarten. Though once your child is enrolled, they must meet the attendance guidelines or truancy can take you to court.
PK was really designed to help children who might not have had learning experiences because of economics and language difficulties get ready for school. Some PK programs begin at 3 others at 4.
If you don't want to enroll your child in a program, or you don't qualify for a program, there are wonderful curr. out there and great resources on the Internet.

No, it is not mandatory... meaning that you will not get in trouble if your child does not attend preschool. In most states, Kindergarten isn't even legally mandated. I would recommend preschool however. It can really do a lot as far as helping to prepare a child for school. In preschool, they learn social skills such as sharing and turn-taking, the ability to sit for periods of time and expand their attention span, and rules of socializing with others. Children can also prepare for school by getting better at fine motor skills (such as how to hold a pencil and use scissors) that they will need to be able to do in kindergarten. Preschool is a valuable asset... and better prepares a child for their future schooling. I know preschool can sometimes be expensive (the reason that so many children do not start school until kindergarten), but if you can swing it, it is definitely worth it.

It isn't mandatory yet many studies have shown that kids attending pre-K are better able to handle the social pressures of school and focus on learning.

Mandatory? Nope- but unless you are teaching your child every thing needed for beginning Kindergarten, pre-k is a great head start.

No. I went straight to Kindergarten, but by that time I think I missed out on some essential socialization skills. I had a really hard time making friends. I'm sending my daughter to Preschool simply because I think it will help her pick up on those important body-language clues that people use to relate to each other subconciously. She seems to do much better at making friends than I ever did.

Not mandatory, but it's good way to help kids learn how to interact with other children and authority figures.

Not yet. But people who both work and have kid(s) are looking for a place to put them during the day besides day care so it is a possibility that it might become a law in the future. Hope this helps!!!

No. In most states, education is only compulsory between the ages of 6 and 16. Younger than that, there's nothing required.

No, but studies have shown that kids that have gone through at least one year of pre-k do better, and are more likely to stay in school.
