I hear tell in other parts of the world that if you don't go with the majority, you can pretty much go to hell. At least we have the option to argue about it here.

i DO think too many americans take that freedom for granted. i am especially disappointed at the secularists who are against invading other countries because they think that those governments should have a right to oppress or even kill THEIR OWN people just as long as they don't cross the border. (i.e.- it's fine for saddam hussein to kill kurds, just not kuwaitis.)

it's an idiotic mentality, and i seriously despise democrats every bit as much as i do christians. the truth is,,, if these LUCKY democrats had been born in iraq or something, they would be begging that someone intervene. religious oppression is a terrible thing. if you wouldn't want it enforced on yourself, then you really shouldn't oppose the idea of invading other countries who enforce it on other people. that's just selfish.

I do think it is taken for granted. We spend so much time telling each other that we are sick of hearing from each other. At least we have the freedom to express our view. We even have the freedom to be jerks. We even have the freedom to NOT listen or NOT believe.

There are so many countries all over the world that persecute for believing contrary to the government. There are many countries where people cannot read the Bible freely. I hear the stories from the missionaries my church supports all the time. Stories of arrests and secret meeting places. I thank God we have the freedom to worship Him freely in America.

Being that I want to maintain my own right....I support the rights of others, regardless of how I believe.

I think we Americans do take our freedom of conscience for granted, and we're paying the price for that now that certain religious extremist groups are working hard to force their views on the rest of the country. This is exactly what our wise Founding Fathers were trying to avoid. They might have been mostly men of faith (though not all Christians, as the religious right would have us believe), but they clearly believed that faith is a personal matter and should be left up to each person to decide.

The Founders knew what they were doing. Separation of church and State is essential to religious freedom.

I am thankful that I have the freedom to worship how I wish. But, yes I do think some Americans do take it for granted. I know some people in other countries have to hide their faith for fear of death.

Yeah, and in some countries you can go to one religion, or you can go to jail! That's how Portugal was under the dictator Salazar until the mid 70's (and the preists were used as secret police!), I knew lots of people that lived under those circumstances. After talking with them, I don't take it for granted so much anymore.

Most Americans don't have any idea of what their right guaranteed by the Constitution are. Only 40% can name 3 for the rights of the first amendment. less than 10% know them all.. I want you all to be in the upper group..
1. Religion
2. Speech
3. Press
4. Petition
5. Assembly..
If you all knew them pat yourself on the back.. Jim

no. i think americans exercise their rights to choose everyday. some believe, some don't. it is true that in other countries not everyone is free to choose who or what they want to worship. however, people tend to think that because americans have so much freedom that they begin to take things for granted. that is not always the case.

No, I do not take it for granted. Christianity still holds too much sway over the government.

If Christians had their way, we would not have a choice. The reason we are on top is that we have freedom.
