The Christians are wrong:

1) “For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:18-19 RSV) Clearly the Old Testament is to be abided by until the end of human existence itself. None other then Jesus said so.

2) All of the vicious Old Testament laws will be binding forever. "It is easier for Heaven and Earth to pass away than for the smallest part of the letter of the law to become invalid." (Luke 16:17 NAB)

3) Jesus strongly approves of the law and the prophets. He hasn’t the slightest objection to the cruelties of the Old Testament. "Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest part or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place." (Matthew 5:17 NAB)

3b) "All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for refutation, for correction, and for training in righteousness..." (2 Timothy 3:16 NAB)

First of all you have a distorted interpretation of Scripture. The laws in the Old Testament revealed God's will to the Children of Israel. They were "ok" because God gave them. You just don't have any idea of what the laws meant. I'll try answering your questions for you as simply as possible in the hopes that you understand.

a) Only the Lord gets to smite-not you.

b) Slavery is outlawed in this country. There was this conflict called the Civil War-maybe you’ve heard of it.

c) A woman will tell you if she’s having her period. You don’t get to commit murder or beat anybody. They’re both crimes.

d) This applies only to the Children of Israel living in the land of Israel. If you’re not an Israelite and don’t live in Israel, you don’t get to apply this rule. Besides, Mexico and Canada aren’t neighbors to Israel. Get a globe.

e) You don’t get to kill anybody for a perceived violation of the Sabbath. There has to be a trial and at least two witnesses whose testimony is accurate and agrees with each other. The Sabbath is the seventh day of the week. Sunday is the Lord’s day and calls to mind the first Easter. Know this-you don’t get to kill anybody.

f) Shellfish and homosexuality are both abominations. Your quote from 1 Samuel 18 never says that David and Jonathan were married. You can’t even imply it. Ruth and Naomi did not have a suspect relationship either. All it shows is that Ruth decided to convert to Judaism. There, settled.

g) Lev. 21:20 only applies to the priests. The official leaders sanctioned by God who were permitted to perform sacrifices at the altar. If you’re not a firstborn male child of the family of Aaron of the tribe of Levi of the children of Israel, you don’t get to perform sacrifices. Doesn’t matter if you have 20/20 vision or not. But that’s all moot now since sacrifices are no longer permitted to be performed since the Temple is no longer in existence.

h) What’s with the death fetish? Nowhere in Scripture does it say these men should die.

i) If you’re really concerned, play football and afterwards, wash your hands. Leviticus 11 permits certain animals to be eaten. So you don’t have to be vegetarian. Also, you don’t get to murder those who eat meat.

j) Hey, lighten up. No burning or stoning for mixing crops or wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread. Also, while blasphemy is a capital offense, again there has to be a trial and at least two witnesses and they had to testify that they warned the offender not to do so.

k) Wrong again. The prohibition on men and women wearing each other’s clothes applied to the pagan sex rites as a form of worship.

l) The unbeliever and you are both wrong. God is not an abortionist. Numbers 5:11-31 is the rite of drinking bitter waters. Miscarriage isn’t mentioned. The worst that would happen is that the woman’s thigh would sag and her belly distend. How is this miscarriage. It was more likely that nothing would happen at all and the woman would be cleared of guilt.

A fetus is not considered a life in being. Therefore, it’s destruction isn’t murder.

Go away, you’re dismissed.

They weren't OK, the old testament is a textbook in atrocities and intolerance. The new testament isn't as bad, but it doesn't exactly overturn or counteract any of the stuff in the old testament. Most christians will still quote the 10 commandments as an example of good morals. There's still some bad stuff about women in the new testament (check all of Corinthians, Colossians 3, and Timothy 2)

Then there's revelations, which is much more like the old testament. Everyone is forced to choose between God and Satan (no other religions, like buddhism, are mentioned). There's a thousand year war between the nations of earth and Jesus, with God killing everyone who chooses Satan. Then he judges all of the people who died in this mess, throwing the ones he doesn't like into a lake of fire. The ones he doesn't throw into the lake get to live in a new paradise, inhabited entirely by christians. There's a few gems of wisdom in the Bible, but there's a heck of a lot of bad stuff too.

Simple.. God allowed some of those things before Jesus came. Animal sacrifices for example were put up for forgiveness and such. But Christ gave his life so that we may not do animal sacrifice anymore. As I've stated before today, God established the New Law, a New Covenant, a more perfect law...

all of those thing were not exactly okay. the reason we have so many religions is because people want to do the things that are not okay in the Bible. They want to be able to have sex with no commitment, or have sex with commitment, but with a commitment to 4 or 5 wives. so people created their own "scripture" and call it "A lost book" or a "DI Vinci Code" which is saying that Jesus was not the perfect man that God himself said he was. so people break off and say that in Their religion, you can drink, or smoke, or sleep around, or kill, or what ever the world wants to say is okay.

People are just looking for an "OKAY" to the wrong they Know they are doing....

They were okay then because it was a necessity based on that time. Things change aspeople advance. For example, Back in old testment times, Polygamy was okay because if a women was to marry and the husband died then society would not allow the woman to take care of herself. The eldest brother of the woman's husband had the responsibility to marry and take care of his sister in law in order for the woman to survive. Now this is not necessary. If a women is widdowed she is allowed to go out and find a job and provide for herself. Times changed and rules changed so certain practices are no longer nessesary.

ummmmm, JESUS really don't delete old testament rules, but some are change. like people need to kill a cow each year, but after JESUS die people no more need to kill a cow.but people can't eat a pig at old testament and i think they still can't eat a pig.but many christians ate pork.that is not really good.JESUS didn't allow to eat pigs.but allowed not to kill a cow. many people are not understand what JESUS changed and not changed. that's why the bible say 'only a few people can go to heaven.

saying rules of OT vd NT is kinda an oversimplification

some laws are for a specific people for a specific time... like temple taxes... and some of the laws of Moses are for Israel, but you can learn form them some or moral for all people for all time, some are cerimonial and apply narrowly to a specific people in a specific practice but you can learn form them and generalize

Jesus was more focused on a redeemed comunity and personal holiness and more focused on the moral laws and redemtpion

even under the covenant of grace a person says with David
in Ps 119 "oooohh how i love your law!! " they follow the spirit of the law which teaches a person to love God, others and the weighty parts of the law of Mercy Justic and Faithfulness
