A lawsuit for malpractice in small claims court is about your only remedy - but you'll need proof. If the vet has a history of this type of thing, you might be able to get his license pulled.

It would probably be a civil case and in most cases it wasn't the vet it was the brilliant vet techs that get the meds together. It is also going to depend on the meds and who attained the weight of the dog for the meds. Most vets the owner takes the pet to the scale and tell them what they weighed. In that case you would have been at fault.

Vets write up dispensing instructions, technicians fill the prescription and reception types the prescription label. You've got a lot of hands, and human error becomes a possibility. If your pet was not harmed, then there is no recourse. If your pet suffered ill effects from the medication, your veterinarian is obligated to cover the cost of all treatment. If you pet died as a result of being overmedicated, you can pursue legal action for the value of your pet.

If the animal fell ill and or died, find out what happened, speak with the vet, listen to what he/she tells you then get a second opinion., They should have liability insurance at best to correct there mistake.
