Hello Natalie. Even though it will hinder and bother you, you really do need some type of support for you finger. Depending on the break, you may be able to brace the finger, by winding tape about 1cm or so wide 3 or 4 times along the length of your injured finger and the finger/s directly on either side of your injured finger. Alternatively, there are spilnts that you can buy, usually from a chemist/drugstore. They are usually made of aluminium with a thin lining of foam on the inside for comfort. Depending on the finger, depends upon which size you would buy. Once you have the correct size, you then tape the splint in three or four places along your finger, to stop it from moving. Using a splint stops most of the movement to the injured finger, while still allowing relatively normal freedom to the other fingers. Of course, depending on the type of break, you may need to have your whole hand plastered, so the finger is totally immobile, which usually encourages quicker healing in most cases. I hope this information can help you. The most important thing, is to make sure you have the finger looked at by a doctor to make sure there is no serious damage. Cheers. Helen :-)

get it casted. if you don't allow it to heal, you could end up with a non-union of the bone that would mean that you would have an extra joint. also it is the movement of the outer covering of the bone, the periosteum, that is causing your pain, the sooner it is immobilized, the better chances of healing. go to a Dr., have it set, and deal with it. in the long run, if the vascular supply is damaged, you could end up with "avascular necrosis" where the bone dies b.c of a lack of blood supply. this would cause you to need surgery for a prosthesis to be placed in place of the bone that is there now. get it taken care of, it'll make for less of a headache (hand ache actually), later.

No, typically they merely tape damaged palms to the subsequent 'reliable' finger to act as a splint. I broke 2 palms in the previous and that's what they did for me, they merely gave me added bandages so i could substitute the dressings. I had it on for 6 weeks.
