When you post a question like this please give as much information as possible about your firearm...What type of action? model number? anything stamped on the "gun" that could possible identify...

If your rifle is a bolt action 22lr, model numbers 34-36(maybe)? If that's the case what you probable have is a Ranger 22lr that was made by the "(Savage)Stevens" firearms company. Before WWII (Savage)Stevens made this model (Ranger) and sold it to department stores like Sears...BTW Savage purchased the J. Stevens firearms Co in 1920.. Savage still builds Stevens firearms...

Try this book "Savage & Stevens Arms collector's history" you can order by phone at 503-328-9339 or over the web at http://www.corystevens.com . I would have given you the Savage address and phone number but, you will get more and better information on a historical piece from the book...

Good Luck...Hope this helps...

There are books like the Shooter's Bible & Gun Value's in most book stores and Libraries. The are collector sites and group in Yahoo! Groups as well depending on the manufacturer. Do you know the gunmaker? Sounds like a Winchester or USRC made gun. What Action type is it? lever, pump, bolt?
