Yes. For the fleas that are on your pet when you are combing - many more fleas & their eggs & larvae will still be in your pets bedding, your carpet, & furniture, so you need to spray, too. If you don't want to spray your pet, at least treat these areas. But you will need to be vigilant with this flea combing procedure then - doing it at least once a day till you see no more fleas. Any flea comb is ok (they all have the teeth close together to trap the fleas) just get whichever one is comfortable for you to handle. You should have a bowl of water with a drop or 2 of dish soap in it & a washcloth nearby when combing. After every few passes through your pet's fur, dunk the comb in the bowl & remove the fleas you see (trapped near the top of the teeth) while underwater - they will sink to the bottom & drown (the drop of soap keeps them from floating to the top & climbing out). Then wipe the comb dry with then washcloth & repeat till done. Keep at it till flea season is over, & good luck!

Flea Combs

They can be very effective, but be sure to buy a flea comb for the appropriate pet. Flea combs for cats have smalled gaps between the teeth and are more effective on tiny cat fleas. A dog's hair isn't always as fine as a cats, so you want a comb with bigger gaps between the teeth. You still have to kill the fleas after you catch them - either with tweezers or alcohol.

Flea combs are effective once you've killed the fleas, but don't do much for the removal of the flea eggs. In order to be completely sure you're getting rid of the problem, and good, veterinary prescribed treatment such as Frontline liquid spray is best. If you're animal has been in the house and infested, then a full fumigation is necessary, and don't forget to do the yards as well.

Cats love flea combs when there isn't a thunderstorm happening (static electricity!)
I recommend Advantage for flea control. Get it from the vet. My cats have porch privileges and they never get fleas but they still love their combings (and they get a kitty treat when they are done)

Yes, BUT! You need to use them consistantly and carefully. Buy whichever one your vet recommends or one of the more expensive ones at the pet store.

Use it every day and kill any fleas you find. Comb until you do not find any more fleas. Do so each day being sure to get the entire animal.

They will work, but unless your animal is sensitive to the flea medications it is typically easier just to use them.

Yes, but I still use them with flea drops that you put on with a pippette behind the head - less distressing than a noisy spray and you know a cat could eat food around a tablet! And be careful, its really easy to snag their skin - especially with metal combs! Good luck! x

Why would a flea need a comb? Do they make combs just for flea's, and where do flea's shop?

NO!.They can be effective if you wash your cat with a shampoo to control fleas/parasites,but then you have to find someone stupid enough to try getting the cat to agree to a bath,LOL.
Anyway, your best option is to get any one of those products available from your local supermarket or vet, which is only a small tube, and a little drop which you can dispense behind their neck/ears.PLEASE don't forget that cats always clean themselves using their toungue,so not too many chemicals O.K.!!!
